Hi all: I have recently got back in touch with a lovely nephew and niece I thought I'd lost contact with forever. they have just lost their Mum and are a bir fragile obviously. They are both great readers according ot their Dad, but I have no idea what they like/who they are into! Can anyone help and recommend a great couple of books - the girl is just gone 10 and the lad is 7? It doesn't matter if they have read them, I am sure they'd appreciate the gift whatever. Alternatively Amazon sometimes does lists, any of them worth looking at? All help grategully received. Gary

For a boy Flat Stanley is good. Also, the Where's Wally books are great for 7 year old boys.

If they're great readers, in their circs I expect they would like something that they can get a bit lost in - not too "real".

Dark is Rising (Susan Cooper) series for your niece.

Possibly The Hobbit for your nephew - or, if that might be too advances, the Varjak Paw books (there are two of them).

7 y-o boy; anything dr who!!! There are the novels, they may be a little tricky for him, but there are so many other books on the monsters, the daleks, comic style books etc you will be able to find something suitable

For a girl; another vote for high school musical, It is dreadfully unhigh-brow but tbh thats what they like and where's the harm
