Al Green: Tell me more please...

...and should I go and see him tonight?

DH has just called to say that he has been offered 4 free tickets, guests of a bank, in a private box to see Al Green at MEN Manchester Arena this evening. Even have free parking.

I have asked a friend who I know does like him if she and her Dh want to come along.

But have to admit I don't know who he is or anything else.

What is he like? Will I know his stuff? Is it worth going do you reckon?

He is brilliant, Hula. His most famous song is probably Let's Stay Together. He's a soul artist, quite motown-y

rantinghousewife · 29/06/2007 10:48

He's a reverend

Marina · 29/06/2007 10:50

Go, he's a legend (and a reverend)

Enid · 29/06/2007 10:51

tbh with the words 'free ticket' and 'box' I would go to see absolutely anything including a strip show by Big Daddy.

Al Green is THE BEST. Why are you still on here? I'd be putting on a push up bra and a large cross!

Friend likes him. She loves motown. She is trying to get hold of her DH, who is on site right now, to see if they can make it and if they can get a baby sitter.

I amn pretty sure we can find a sitter.

he's fantastic but did you see him on Breakfast yesterday?

He must have been jet lagged

or something

Hulababy · 29/06/2007 10:54

It isn't till 7:30pm anyway so won't need to leave here until 6ish. Plenty of time

Definitely go - he's fab. Voice like chocolate.

Hulababy · 29/06/2007 11:11

DH just called to say it is all off. Can't go. Not sure on reason or anything yet as he couldn't talk at the time. Not fair

He can't go?

Now, to me that means 'no need to find a babysitter' rather than 'I can't go'...

but presumably the tickets are in his name or something.

What a pita.

Well he is a legend and genius, but his voice has, tragically, gone almost completely, and he's a complete loon these days.
But go, just to say you've seen him before he dies. Then get a good CD compilation with Let's Stay together and Love and Happiness on it. He's one of the best soul singers ever - he and Otis Redding are my favourites.
