Music City Soul by Beverley Knight

Does anybody else have this album? I have been playing it constantly for 3 weeks since I bought it. It is simply superb. Real soul music with wonderful vocals, harmonies, lyrics and arrangements.

When I first heard the first track, I thought I had been transported back to the 60s to the Stax label in Memphis. It really has that feel so it was no surprise to learn that that is where the album was recorded in 5 days. Her version of "Time is on side" just sends tingles down my spine each time I hear it. Also, this must be one of the few albums where the bonus tracks exceed the brilliance of some of the main tracks which are all very good. I just adore "Back to you". It is an exceptional song sung with a wonderful, intricate arrangement that requires changes in scale and very few people could actually sing that song well. Beverley and her backing singers have really set the bar high when it comes to that song.

IMHO, I think Ms Knight is one of a handful of vocalists in this country who can really sing.

I brought this album a couple of weeks ago, I think its great. My dad was in my car one day whilst I was playing it, and he nicked it ... and he hasn't give it me back yet
