Darcy Bussell / Ballet question from an ignoramus

Reeeeeaaaally hoping someone can help. I'm wanting to buy someone a xmas present. They really want to see Darcy Bussell, and I'm going to get them tickets, but I have NO idea about ballet.

I've had a look at her website - seems like she's in a few things but I've never heard of any of them, e.g. 'Apollo', 'Theme and Variations'.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Pickle, that's a very generous present - Ballet tickets are expensive!

Sorry, don't have up to date knowledge of what's best to see but what I heard recently is that she is retiring soon so it's probably the right time now if you want to catch her....also, I have seen her in numerous things on the telly and to be honest, she's just so special that I think tickets to see her in ANYTHING would be fine. She really is an amazing dancer, no ballet fan would be disappointed to see her; I prefer the traditional ballets but if someone gave me a ticket to see her in the most modern bizarre piece I would still love it! Basically, you can't go wrong is my recommendation!

Did you know her really name is Tracey Palmer or something quite ordinary.

SueW · 03/12/2006 09:33

Marnie Mercedes Darcey Pembleton Crittle

You sure, I could have sworn it was Tracey.

Think she is doing two at the moment and one has had good reviews but the other has been more critical. One of them is quite athletic which suits her style but the other requires more acting which she is not very good at apparently. Think one review said there was little chemistry between her and the male lead she is opposite. I would have read reviews in either the Times or Guardian this week so it might be worth googling. I knew I wouldn't get to see them so scanned rather than read in depth I'm afraid. Too late now but I can go through my recycling basket tomorrow if that would help.

urgh. hate darcy bussel.

find her incredibly inexpressive.

now, if sylvie guilleme was younger....

loads of people love darcy though, and i think it is a wonderful gift.

If you look at the royal opera website, that should help.

also look up reviews in guardian.co.uk and timeout.com
