and the whole production is supposed to be fantastic.

Review in the Independent today was gushing.

I wish I could go and see it...
I hope it will run for a long time so I'll get the chance one day!

I read that review, too, emkana. "Where did they find those children?" it gasped. But the London evening papers were just as keen, and so, more or less, was Radio 4's Front Row this evening.

JanH · 16/11/2006 23:00

Oh I listened to Front Row too but did you notice she said the film starred Julie Walters? (And there was another glaring blooper but I forget what just now )

Fauve · 17/11/2006 08:29

Yes, but it was quite neatly handled. If I'd been on (chance'd be a fine thing), I would've tactlessly pointed out the mistake; but they just rather insistently went on about Julie ANDREWS this and Julie ANDREWS that, in the discussion that followed. Didn't notice the other mistake tho - too about the Julie thing.

who is playing captain von trapp?

hulababy · 17/11/2006 09:04

On Children in Need tonight:

8.30pm ? 9pm
Connie and the cast of The Sound of Music perform material from their hit West End show, while Holby City is gripped by disco fever as doctors and nurses swap scrubs for spandex to perform Madonna's Hung Up.

Is there not a performance tonight then? Seems early as normally the stage show bits are late on, after the real performance has finished.

The captain is Samantha Bond's husband, I think - or somebody's husband. I want to go, I want to go...

I just have to sell it to dd. It has to be her idea, not mine. Hmmmm.... Children in Need tonight may do it.

Have a lovely time

emkana · 17/11/2006 22:32

Oh dear, looks like pamina got the understudies tonight after all...

OP posts:
julienetmum · 17/11/2006 23:41

The children are not allowed to be on stage after 10pm (10.30pm for over 14's) so I expect that is why it was on CIN earlier)

Shame for those getting the understudy but that is the risk you always take with shows.

all we got in scotland was one song. please torture me with more details if there were any.

hulababy · 19/11/2006 10:51

The review in The Sunday Times by AA Gill is not too great. DH got the impression he just didn't like The Sound of Musical full stop though, so maybe that was it. It is first time I have heard anything negative.

we took dd to the matinee of this yesterday

I am NOT a fan of musicals but I omg we so enjoyed it!

A fabulous production, the scenery was superb, Maria was great (voice not a patch on Julie Andrews of course), The captain had obviously settled in to his role, I thought he was brilliant too. And the children were fab despite liesel looking about 30.

dd has been singing the songs from it ever since!
