I set up a bookclub so is going to look pretty lame if I am the one having not read the book - but guess what - I haven't read it.

I know I should be all honest and up front but feel all deceptive and mysterious so.....

....the book is 'Kim' by Rudyard Kipling - HELP!!! If you have read it please please post something clever about it. Ifyou haven't read it make up something clever I could say anyway!

I know I am a fraud but I want my bokclub to work and I really tried to read it!!!!

FatThighs, what are you playing at?!

Did you not read it because you didn't like it? Have you read some of it? If so, that's ok, say why you didn't like it.

If you haven't read it because you couldn't be arsed it's going to be pretty hard to wing it!

(I've not read it - try and find someone who has. IN 2 hours)

try this

and don't let the dog eat your homework again, young lady...

pointydog · 06/11/2006 19:00

[grin- mrsflowerpot - I might call on you in the future!

FatThighs · 06/11/2006 19:02

Oh pointy dog I know you are right and in other circumstances I would say the same thing but (here's the but) I did buy it and start it and actually read the first quarter but my attention span and memory are shot to buggery! I liked it I can see the cultural merit in reading it but I skimmed and skimmed and then couldn't remember one character from another and one plot revelation to another.

It is my first branch out from socially mummydom and I feel like I am going to foul it up (some people there have no children and can read and attend for hours!!!!)

FatThighs · 06/11/2006 19:08

You obviously have a btetter behaved book group than mine - it's a minor miracle if half the group have read the book...we've ben going for a year & have one member who's only ever finished one book!!!
Kim's a good idea - might try that for next month...

FatThighs · 06/11/2006 19:31

funnypeculiar - perhaps I should join your bookgroup - or at least foster your attitude.

My DH has just given me encouragement by passing me a bottle of beer as he says I always am able to talk rubbish when I have had a beer or two.

Maybe that's the answer! (is that what you do funnypeculiar??)

Ahem, we do drink a little.

Also we only read book with some sort of odd sexual deviancy in.
And death if possible. Didn't plan it that way, those just seem to be the books that appeal.
Well except Heart Of Darkness, and we didn't like that

FireFaerie · 06/11/2006 21:52

fancy suggesting that! hehe, am still now eagerly awaiting your post letting us know that it went spiffingly/painfully/blagged-by-the-skin-of-your-teeth

FatThighs · 09/11/2006 14:41

HELLO!

Well I went and guess what I was kind of like everyone else- was a hard book to read most had skimmed it and I had read (or pretended to have read) more than most. We had a nice chat about relationship and orphans and India and Buddism and all sorts.

It turned out fine (I did have 3 lagers along the way and had to duck a few direct questions!!!)

Next book is time travllers wife - have already read it and so won't be caught out again!!!!
