I don't know anyone else who has heard of them and I think they are quite marvellous

I knew it. I am the only one

I want someone else to snigger at their very witty lyrics and amusing singing style with me

Maybe if I keep bumping this thread some people will go and buy their records to hear what they are like?

what are they/it?

FrannyandZooey · 19/10/2006 21:14

Oh I got all excited there SEA, I thought you were a fan and I was all set to make you my new best friend

They are a band

you should hear them, they are good!

Look here is a quite good article on them:

i wish those sites would play their music

EmmyLou · 19/10/2006 21:33

Ahh well now - the Jonathan Richman reference in the article got me interested. Would prob only cost me 79p to download a track onto my ipod - any favourite tracks you can recommend F&Z?

Like to try and stay one step ahead of my 11 yr old dd on the music front. I do flounder though.

FrannyandZooey · 19/10/2006 22:21

Ha-HAH

Well I think "Bang Bang Rock and Roll" is very good all round

"Rusted Guns of Milan" is so funny that it nearly made me drop a 5 kilo weight on my foot when I heard it at the gym

"Formed a Band" is lovely and loud and makes you sit up and listen and say "my word, who are these chappies?"

There are lyrics here to help you decide which one you fancy, but please don't read the lyrics to Rusted Guns of Milan before you have heard it, or it just won't have the same "drop a 5 kilo weight on your foot laughing" effect, I promise

EmmyLou download one

if you don't like it I will personally send you 79p

but you will like it and we can form a clique of two

Bump to convert all the morning crew

No actually I feel confident a discerning group like yourselves are all fans already

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2006 08:41

yes, I knew it, you are all too busy listening to them to post, aren't you?

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 20/10/2006 08:44

anyone mentioning jonathan richman must be worth a listen.....checking them out right this minute!!! cheers!

zippitippitoes · 20/10/2006 08:45

oh i thought you were talking about art

EmmyLou · 20/10/2006 21:02

Thenks F&Z - will get onto itunes now. Funny though, I never interpreted your 'through-the-ether-cyber-personality' as being a gym bunny...funny thing these mental photo-fits of posters

FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2006 21:30

have you done it, yet?

(ps you are quite right, quite right indeed. I am attempting to re-invent myself as fit sporty gym type though. On the whole it is going quite well)

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2006 21:31

and sorry zippi...we can talk about art, if you like? Do you like Art Brut, then? I mean the type art, not the band?

OP posts:
EmmyLou · 20/10/2006 22:06

Oh YES! I have done it and it strengthens my unfulfilled desire to be a backing singer whilst keeping a straight fac (re: "Don't tell your friends..." especially.

Thankyou - 10/10 recommendation

Can see where the Jonathan Richman analogy/influence (?) comes from. (love that mix of the everyday conversational lyrics, rhythm and melody etc - almost Smiths like in that respect. Am i sounding up my own arse yet???)

FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2006 22:09

HA HA HAAAAAA!

"Don't tell your friends" was of course my weight dropped on foot moment

Aren't they smashing? I have been skipping around all week singing "I can't stand the sound....OF THE VELVET UNDERGROUND"

OP posts:
EmmyLou · 20/10/2006 22:09

Sorry - that should read "whilst keeping a straight FACE".

Obviously too excited by musical discovery.

But why do I keep wanting to call them 'cillit bang'?

EmmyLou · 20/10/2006 22:11

Can fully understand 'dropped weight' moment. Will try not to think of lyrics whilst in Pilated class or could end up with dropped 'down dog'.

EmmyLou · 20/10/2006 22:12

Done it again! That's: PILATES.

FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2006 22:14

I have made dp swear to never put anything on my mp3 thingy that tests the pelvic floor quite so much ever again

I don't like "Modern Art" so much though, it's like they thought of two rhymes and got bored

I am not fond of Emily Kane, either, it's a bit twee (reached no 42 in the charts though)

EmmyLou · 20/10/2006 22:20

Alas, my dh's interest in music is well, rather tepid. Drives me mad. but am hoping that DD1 (11) will be my music buddy only I have to be careful to make sure i tell her to "get that rubbish turned down" etc so she feels she has something to rebel against.
