it's the first time I have been to the Proper Opera

so.....
what should I wear

and can you help me out with something witty and original to say to my companions

I went to see A Child of Our Time last year which was too marvellous for £5 because i was taking a group of school girls
who all looked at me very oddly when I was sobbing with snot pouring out of my nose

I don't know Jenufa very well but DH says it's fab. I believe the story is v.sad, but then it's opera innit!

Jenufa is the younger woman but there's also an older one who some say could be thought of as the main chracter. she isn't too nice thought, think she murders her grandson or something awful. music fab though.

wear something comfortable but elegant. really annoying thing at the opera is people all dolled up who then fidget and rustle because they're not comfortable in it. idiots. I am sure you always look tres soignee

People I know who have seen it say it is completely emotionally draining. So go easy on the mascara. I think you should wear whatever makes you feel good and comfortable - you genuinely can wear whatever you like, although most people will be smartish.

But I don't reckon you'll have to come up with anything witty because you'll all be wrung out...
