Tell me about Honegger's "King David" all you choir-types

I am thinking of biting the bullet and joining my local choir. I was in a choir about 7 years ago and am now rusty and more than a little nervous. They are just about to start rehearsing Honegger's "King David" and I don?t know it. I am an alto and can sight read well. Will I cope with it?

Ah thanks jura, you've made me feel much better. The choir's run by the uni I work for and though a little daunting as the music school here runs it, I have seen them perform Handel's Messiah and Verdi's Four Sacred Pieces and I think I can handle it. They will be performing the piece in question at the Cathedral for Christmas and I'm very excited. I'll be 20wks pg, probably doubly emotional as I am now at 7wks and I'm itching to start singing again.

Thanks for the advice, ooh I'm all excited.

I'm pretty sure it's in French as it's actually entitled Le Roi David and I know Honegger studied at the Paris Conservatory (although I believe he's actually Swiss).

Go for it SoH. I don't know that piece but I joined a local choir a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. I was a bit rusty but it does all come back once you get going. It's done me the world of good.

Thanks MegaLegs, I'm dreading the first rehearsal. Lots of furious blushing and stammering at first I suspect but it's such a buzz once you get into it!

Don't know the Honneger SoH, sorry, but just wanted to say you should def go for it - and also that you've inspired me to check out my local choir - this is the upcoming programme:
Bach - Cantata 6 from Christmas Oratorio
Mozart - Coronation Mass
Mozart - Prague Symphony

Excited now! Thanks for putting this thread up.

I've not done King David, but did Honegger's Jeanne D'Arc at university when I first started choral singing. From what I remember it wasn't too difficult - certainly not as difficult as Britten.
