This is such a long shot, but do you recognise this poem from one line?

'I am a crumpled leaf, I am a withered arm'

I have no idea if its paticularly famous, I guess so. All I can remember is that its got 2 verses, this line is in the second. I read it about 15 years ago, and really wish I'd copied it.
If its really well known, I'll be so ashamed at my ignorance Blush

nagging feeling it's Oscar Wilde

Tinker · 16/03/2006 19:41

Tried to google it with no luck

fastasleep · 16/03/2006 19:41

Google was unhelpful, tries again

A lot of stuff is being picked up from The Picture of Dorian Grey, but that's a whole book!

ixel · 16/03/2006 19:45

Hmmm. Think I should have remembered if it was someone THAT famous, but then again, I was alot younger when I read it, so it might not have registered!

I'll have a look through a few of my books see if I can find it in there..

ixel · 16/03/2006 19:49

All I'm getting on searches is Thomas Hardy's The Withered Arm.

UlyseesEggsAndEatsThem · 16/03/2006 19:51

haha we've all been googling Grin

lazyanna · 16/03/2006 19:52

Possibly that's what I was thinking of.

If Wilde was straight, and, well, alive, hubby wouldn't see me for dust.

popsycalindisguise · 16/03/2006 19:53

could it be a poem witin an oscar wilde book?

chocolateshoes · 16/03/2006 20:31

DH says is it Robert Frost or Walt Witman. I wondered if it was Somerset Maugham though.

getbakainyourjimjams · 16/03/2006 20:47

Somerset maugham- it's not the bit about the carpet is it, that's my favourite thing ever. Will search later.
