Just been offered a ticket to see this at a local cinema, and really don't know if I'll enjoy it. I enjoy theatre generally, but have never seen a Chekhov play, and I'm wondering if it'll be a bit heavy and depressing...?

Cherry Orchard is meant to be a comedy so shouldn't be heavy or depressing. Give it a go and sit at the back, you can always leave if you hate it.

Thanks neeps, didn't realise it was a comedy.
I'd be happy to walk out, but will feel obliged to stay if friend (who's offered me the ticket) is enjoying it!

Ah I see! I think it will be good although I've never seen theatre in the cinema so don't know how well it works. Cherry Orchard doesn't always get directed as a comedy but Chekhov meant it to be one. Hope it's good if you do go.
