Hello all,

I need your help. I am looking for ideas for a project I'm doing. What portraits or painters would your kids recognise (whether they know the name of the artist or not is not important!)

I'll reveal all later but your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Emma xx

Some of the Mondrian paintings are very recognisable.

Did anyone watch the programme last night?

I can never get enough of all that Italian art and seeing places I've been in Florence and Venice.

What I found particularly interesting was Matthew Collings need to tell us that he was only interested in the "Art" and not the religious aspects of the paintings (how could he possibly separate the two).

I always think if you see enough Boticellis, etc you can be in no doubt that god exists.

Also found the in-depth analysis of Durer totally fascinating and informative - never been to germany but now I want to go to Nuremberg

I saw it Cam, It was wonderful - very interesting to look at the self portrait on its own.

I also saw the Rolf on Art the other day, he was recreating the girl with the pearl earring. It was very good as it looked at the ways the painting could have been constructed. It got DH (who is not very into painting) really interested and began a big discussion about art in general. It seemed to be quite accessible in a way thet lots of art programmes are not.

As for my search for portraits kids would recognise. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas. I'm hoping we have settled on a painting to concentrate the project on (The Scream by Edvard Munch) I'm really looking forward to completing the project and will let you all see the results as I am going to be filmed doing it for a childrens TV show.

Will tell you more when its complete but thans so much for the help. I can now persuade the producers what the best thing to use will be.

Thank you

Emma

Phillipat - thanks for letting me know about the I Spy art books. They are wonderful. I managed to get hold of a couple and I love them. I can't wait until DD is old enough to really appreciate them. She is only 18 month now - but is getting an indoctrination into art at an early age!

What sharklet, you're going to be presenting on the telly

You must let us know when.

Yes dd watched the Rolf on Art with dh - she is fascinated by the girl with a pearl earring.

I started taking dd to galleries at 18 months, pusing her around in her pushchair. She also had an ELC easel and loads of fingerpaints as soon as she could stand up and paint!

Getting nervous abou tit now - must get my haircut!

You might find this game from the National Portrait Gallery and www.show.me.uk useful

tortoiseshell · 15/09/2005 21:01

Oh exciting, that's the one I suggested!

philippat · 15/09/2005 21:10

can I be REALLY boring and remind you that Munch is still in copyright (for another 9 years) and you'll (or your producers) will need to pay a copyright fee... (dacs is the agent )

Hope it goes well, sounds fantastic!

sharklet · 16/09/2005 14:23

Hi Phillipat - they already worked that out. We're doing Warhol one of the pop art portraits as its out of copyright now. Never mind. It should look pretty funky though!
