First i would like to say I'm worried about writing this as its the first time I've spoken about my problem. I've been a victim of domestic violence . I've got really bad burns on my arms my legs and my front teeth have all been knocked out. I've kept this a secret from my family. My burns are so bad I've not been able to wear a short sleeve top or shorts for 6 years. Today my lovely sister called to say she's getting married abroad all booked and paid for. My anxiety is at its worst. So I spoke to a lady on Facebook but said its my friend she said that I can raise funds for surgery. The problem is I can't even send an email as I do struggle with dyslexia. I want to know if its true . Can I raise the funds. I'm so excited unless it's someone being cruel . If this is true would someone help me. I want my life back. My dream is to take my grandchildren swimming. Thank you for reading. I don't mind answering any questions you may have. Xxx

What do you mean raise funds for surgery. Raise funds how? Is she advising you to sell things or set up a go fund me or something?

You should speak to your GP first and ask if you could be referred to the plastics team, they will be able to assess you and tell you
a) if surgery is actually a possibility and if you are eligible on the nhs and
b) help you be realistic in your expectations of what is achievable if you aren’t eligible for NHS help and want to look in to paying for surgery.

Are you wanting to have the surgery before the wedding? How have you managed to keep not having teeth from your family? Do they know about the DV?
There are ways to raise money for surgery, but I would be wary of trusting a random woman on Facebook as it could easily be a scam.

Surely the nhs pays for this?

Tel your family. You have nothing to be ashamed of!

As previous posters have said please, please don't believe a woman on Facebook!
Talk to your GP, talk to your family. You have nothing to be ashamed of.
Just one thing though. You've made this post without any spelling or grammatical issues. You are definitely capable of sending an email!

Please go and talk to your GP they will be able to refer you.

Unless there is a functional issue it's unlikely the NHS will fund this. That message sounds like a scam, be careful, set up your own go fund me maybe? At least you'd have control. I'm sorry you are going through this.

Tell your family. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Time to stop the anxiety.
