Anyone Written a Crime Novel?

I'm just wondering how much research you did? This is the factor that always puts me off!

I realise it wouldn't have to be wholly realistic, as that wouldn't make a good novel. But even basic knowledge of police procedure, etc, would still take a long time.

Thanks.

I know a few people who have, they found people who gave advice about police procedures etc but a lot was from the internet or just what they’d read (they’re all avid crime readers). There’s also Facebook groups where they chat to others to flesh out ideas. Good luck!

Join Sisters in Crime! For writers. They have a UK based group alongside a larger international one.

I am. A police procedural. I worked for the CPS donkeys years ago and read a LOT of crime fiction. I also do much googling! TBH I’m not stressing about the minutiae of process and procedure until I’ve finished the first draft. Now checking out sisters in crime!

I haven't, but I came here to ask exactly the same question. I have what I think might be a good idea for a detective story, but realise I have no idea what (police) detectives would and wouldn't be allowed to do in various situations.
