I’m starting a DIY NanNoWriMo today, eek 😧

I believe this means I’m committing to 1666 words every day for the next month.

With the intention of getting to 50,000 words in 30 days, for me this will be the 10th June…

I would LOVE it if anybody had the energy to check in here and hold me accountable to this goal, please!🙏

Or if you also need support with your writing and you fancy joining me… maybe you have your own goal (could be less words, or the full 50,000) I will gladly support you, and hold you accountable too!

Thanks folks

A minuscule bump

How are you progressing? I've been editing for over a year!

Good luck! I'm now on the other side and trying to lose words....it's a strange place to be in! I managed to lose about 1400 yesterday which was a big achievement. My completed very rough first draft was 112,000 and I want to get it down to high 90s at the most. Editing it in chunks of about 8000 words and trying to lose at least 10% of them through redundancies and repetitions.

I was aiming to finish my proper first draft for an alpha read by the end of May but not sure if I'll hit that. I'm doing my line editing by hand and then typing up which is a much better process for me and really effective, but it takes double the time!

Thanks @EveInEden @trailblazer42

... Hmm, it's not going entirely to plan...! I'm only 7000 words down and have decided to rewrite the last 3000! But on the up side, I really love this story plan, and think it has legs, so it's nice to feel confident about a project at this early stage..

It also looks like we might be moving house soon so I may have picked the worst possible time to try and finish a novel 😆But I am resolved to keep buggering on 😊

@EveInEden has anyone else read it yet?

@trailblazer42 I'm envious, well done! Also, does it HAVE to be shortened? Might it be good for a first read as it is?

No. I need to find Betas. I have shared passages and they go down well. Have several competitions I want to enter at the end of May.

It definitely needs shortening…a lot was written during NaNo when I was desperate to get words up so there is waffle! And a lot of tightening is needed…I’m not finding it hard to cut the words which tells me it’s too high.

I intend to try the traditional publishing route and word count for my genre is more like 80-90k, but part of it is historical so I’m probably ok to be 90-100k on submissions.
