NaNoWriMo officially closing down

For those of us who have taken part, I've had an email saying this.

I'd like to keep November alive with writing, anyone else?

Everything is closing down.

Do you mean everything to do with NaNoWriMo, or more generally?

In general. Libraries, services, and now nanowrimo

We're OKish where I am, SE England, for libraries, they are making an effort to reach out, several within a few miles still open, do hope it's similar with you.

NaNoWriMo I think couldn't survive the scandal(s).

There are mods who left in protest, and run something every November, those I'm aware of are on Discord.

I'd love to keep November writing here going, it did give me an impetus, although I managed very little last November.

All thoughts/ideas welcome!

I hate discord with a passion

I regard myself as very tech literate, but needed help from AC to get set up. I've found the Discord communities I sometimes visit very supportive. Completely get if it's not for you, though.

So, could we try a November thing here to support those of us who would like a reason/challenge/excuse to write?

It doesn't have to be November, but it's a bit of a tribute to all the good stuff NaNoWriMo did do, the people who wrote and published because of one dedicated month, all the support given. The good stuff can live on past the scandals.

Alleged Young Writer grooming, alleged racism, I think. Compounded by apparently poor management. Many mods left, but still keep a space for those who want to write.

There is/was a lot of great stuff on the site about preparing to write, including re characters etc. I don't know if it's still there, but I found it really helpful - questions which helped me delve more. Think it's NanoPrep101.

I've just googled, there's AI ism stuff mentioned, but from the emails I saw, it was very much inappropriate behaviour.

I’ve always avoided it due to the name, which gives me the ick. I think it’s the “Wri” part. Sounds like writhing maggots.
