Urgh, it's the worst. My agent sent out my novel just over three weeks ago, and I am STRESSING. Everyone saying it's super slow out there. I'm having kittens because the last (and only) time I went out on sub, the publisher who bought it got back to us with two days. Do any writers out there have experience of timelines at the moment?? We had a super keen response in the first week, but that's gone nowhere because they're publishing something else that is too similar... GNARGGH.

Hi. It's horrible just waiting & waiting! I think mine took up to 8 weeks but some were a bit quicker. We're getting close to the summer where publishing seems to close down for a month but hopefully you'll hear before then! My current publishers are looking at my newest manuscript and have told me it'll be a few weeks.

It's so tricky, isn't it? I'm working on edits for a different book, so at least that's something to take my mind off it, but aaaargh. And - yes - feel like it's all going to start shutting down probably by the end of the month... And then there will be a flood of new submissions in September... Urgh, it's so stressful!

Sorry, I don't know what to suggest as I'm kind of in the same position. At least the edits may help to take your mind off it all?

I’ve been on sub for a year now. US editors tho, I hear UK ones are faster. It’s awful. Stay strong OP and prepare for a lot of waiting!

A year? Oh WOW. I'm lucky with my usual publisher because she seems to be able to decide quite quickly, but this is a genre shift so this book won't work for her so I'm back out in the cruel world of submissions. @blackrabbitwhiterabbit - did you hear from them at all during that 8 weeks? (I just wondered if they were taking something to acquisitions, would you be told? Or is it just radio silence...)

You can probably stop checking your inbox this week as the whole of the publishing industry goes off the Glastonbury!

Sympathies on the wait and hope it has a happy outcome.

Any updates? My first novel is out on submission as of today, so I'm very invested in how things turned out for you all Blush
