Write this time - the cheerleading and consistency thread

Hello! It seems some of us would like a daily thread, not just for accountability but to chat, and encourage, and to see that someone else is pleased that you or I wrote something today!

I have set this up for any writing. Whatever you are writing, let's be cheerleaders for each other. I have started and failed to finish a couple of Nanowrimos and just want to get in the habit of daily writing. I've got some story ideas and some memoir bits I'd like to do. From there, I hope to decide on a project for next year.

I might do 200 words, I might do 1000. I just want to post every time I get some writing into my day. And hopefully others will do too. Just feel free to put anything here really.

I shall be posting here tomorrow to tell you I have done some writing!

Oh that's interesting. I've written many stories that revolve around songs. I won an award for a short story that invokes a particular 70s tune (I won't say what in case I out myself!) So it's definitely a thing!

Well that sounds exciting! Feel free to DM.

I suppose people must create that vibe. I just haven't read it yet. Imagine the stories you could make from Mike Oldfield Crime of Passion, or Moonlight Shadow.

Perhaps the songs are perfect themselves.

I often see art as storytelling as well. I do think I've read stuff like that though. The Thorn Birds made me want to see the Outback as much as a Russell Drysdale painting did.

So yesterday was a bit of a write off, I did go to the theatre though - and have woken up with an awful cough. @EmmaH2022 - how are you feeling today?
@Avidreader69 -- I like the post, thank you! I think the first few chapters of my thesis were written like this - the last one was submitted as it's first draft state! Not reccommended.

HI @Panda141

@BecauseOfIndia That's really exciting that you have sent something.

Also love Taylor Swift.

I may be back later if I have done some writing.

beastlyslumber · 22/10/2022 12:53

Sarah Perry's The Essex Serpent is a very painterly novel.

I worked on my outline then wrote 1000 words of a new short story. Pretty happy with that!

EmmaH2022 · 22/10/2022 12:57

beastly wow, amazing! That is a seriously productive sesh, IMHO.

I loved the start of the Essex Serpent but very disappointed with the rest, I'm afraid.

Ode sorry to hear that. I think lots of people have it. This is going to go on a while I reckon, still feel rubbish and running a fever.

Ooh I have written a very short biographical thing. I'm collating a bunch of them. That was unexpected.

I must be feeling better as I have a burning urge to edit things 😂

Wrote another 1500 words in my story after going for a long walk. That's 2500 words today! stopping now in case I burn out :)

Well done for getting some writing done, Emma! Hopefully a sign you're feeling better.

EmmaH2022 · 22/10/2022 19:47

beastly that's fantastic! Good for you.

I was watching a programme about Canaletto and suddenly wanted to write something.

it's interesting how people interpret first drafts. The programme showed the drawings for some of his paintings - including a set where he stuck with his original composition.

I'm really excited to get stuck in now. Sadly I am genuinely concerned re pneumonia so will call GP on Monday. There are some familiar aspects to this ...it may just be I don't feel as bad as when I last had it because I was massively tired and overworked then.

OP posts:
beastlyslumber · 22/10/2022 20:07

I hope it's not pneumonia! Definitely good idea to call GP. Or call 111 if you're struggling.

Panda141 · 22/10/2022 20:12

Hi all, I had planned to update yesterday but the day got away from me! I did get a bit of writing in during baby's naptime but only got a few sentences edited. Still better than nothing I suppose.

I've been writing a bit this evening and have made good progress so I'm going to keep at it for the next few hours until I go to bed. Trying to ignore that critic in my head and just get the words down! I'm currently focusing on the opening to the book as I think that needs to be pretty solid in my own head before diving back in at the 90k mark.

If I can write consistently for the next few days I would consider doing NaNoWriMo but I've done it twice before and failed both times so I don't know if I can deal with the disappointment again!

@EmmaH2022 I hope you're feeling soon xx

No, I'm not struggling, don't worry. I'm wheezing a little but not as much I did with pneumonia, but as I say, I don't even think antibiotics are first line now, it might just be "wait and see".

my fever is dropping. I still have a steroid inhaler from the last bout so using that.

I took another covid test just in case, but still a no.

X post Panda great going, you're on a roll.

I think those sessions are better than forcing yourself through Nanowrimo.

EmmaH2022 · 24/10/2022 10:27

How's everyone doing?

I have been offered a f2f doc appointment, which is good news and not!

why does stuff like this happen when you are feeling motivated? Grr.

OP posts:
Panda141 · 24/10/2022 12:21

Hi @EmmaH2022 are you feeling any better? At least you'll actually get to see a doctor which is something!

I didn't get any words done yesterday but just in a coffee shop now and baby has gone asleep in his pram so am just getting started to do a few words in my notebook and then I'll dictate them into Word later! It takes a bit longer but at its something.

How's everyone else getting on?

EmmaH2022 · 24/10/2022 15:08

Thank you Panda
great that you did more writing.

Back from the doc, they will test sample but are assuming pneumonia due to history so have to take antibiotics and use a steroid inhaler. They reckon I should feel better in a couple of days but won't be going anywhere for a while. Bummer.

Going to try and sleep now. And it's sunny outside, meh.

OP posts:
Avidreader69 · 24/10/2022 15:58

I hope you had a decent night's sleep EmmaH2022.
At present I am struggling with creating a paperback cover, to complete the process of publishing. I'm going round in circles and getting very confused - nothing new there then. Have a good day everyone.

beastlyslumber · 24/10/2022 16:46

Hope you're feeling better, and hope everyone's had a good day.

I finished a first draft of new story yesterday and did a bit more work on my novel outline. Have stalled today though. Spent most of it in a grump and have done fuck all!

EmmaH2022 · 24/10/2022 18:00

beastly you've done loads though, that's grand.

Avid that's exciting. Are you doing it all yourself?

I have taken my first pill, had a nap, and my stomach is not happy - after just one pill.

Grr. Okay, I am not going to bore on about this. Doc said fever should reduce quickly after starting the meds, so tomorrow I am hoping to study the Science of Storytelling book I mentioned.

OP posts:
Panda141 · 25/10/2022 11:55

I read Science of Storytelling a few years ago and I thought it was absolutely brilliant, one of the best books I've ever read on writing! I'll be interested to hear what you think of it!

EmmaH2022 · 25/10/2022 12:44

Panda thanks! I look forward to it.

I think studying with pneumonia might be optimistic. I feel better and I can't feel my lungs hurting anymore which is very nice! But I'm wiped out.

OP posts:
EmmaH2022 · 26/10/2022 17:50

How is everyone?

I can confirm that pneumonia remains as boring and tiring as in the past...but I am not remotely as ill as I was in the past, so yay!

no studying, just TV today.

Hi Emma, I'm sorry to hear that you have pneumonia, it sounds awful. I hope you can get plenty of sleep, and that your tablets bring the fever down.

EmmaH2022 · 26/10/2022 19:33

Thank you Avid

Fever is gone already, yay! I just don't feel up to much.

OP posts:
beastlyslumber · 26/10/2022 19:39

Sorry you're not well Emma! Hopefully resting is helping.

I've slacked off from writing the last couple of days. It's very hot and sunny where I am so I've been to the beach all day, swimming and lying on the sand, listening to podcasts. Sorry/not sorry!
