Accountability Buddies

Nouveaunew · 15/03/2022 17:36

I love writing and have been writing for decades but my output is really sporadic due to PMDD and ADD! So, I’m wondering if anyone else who isn’t just starting out writing but really needs to feel accountable would like to be accountability buddies here? We could make our own ‘rules’ once we know who is on board …

I'm getting into the habit of using my phone to write bits and pieces here and there. It means if I have a few minutes spare there no excuse not to...

Nouveaunew · 26/03/2022 21:00

Yeah it’s handy to jot things down in the Notes. I do that too because so much of the thinking happens away from the writing desk.

I’ve only just seen this thread. Mind if I join you? I’m trying to write but 3 yr old + baby + (maybe) ADD = no writing at all! So frustrated with myself.

Nouveaunew · 27/03/2022 02:51

Welcome aboard @Roseandgeranium I think a 3 year old and a baby will get in the way all right — I have no such valid excuse!

Drybird2020 · 01/04/2022 10:52

@Roseandgeranium how's it going? Are you managing to write? Im now on school holidays so am aiming to write every day: a hybrid approach involving phone notes, a beautiful hardback notebook given to me by DH , and laptop for longer sessions.

Nouveaunew · 03/04/2022 10:51

Hey! I’ve had a dry spell the last few days but will get some writing in later once I’m home. I’m doing some daydreaming today which apparently helps!

Drybird2020 · 05/04/2022 10:13

Daydreaming is an essential part of the creative process! As are long runs.

Nouveaunew · 06/04/2022 04:31

How’s it going @Drybird2020 ?

Please can I join? I've written 1 short story, 1/2 a short story and 1/4 of a novel. I have so many ideas but struggle to get them out. Really want to get back to my novel.

Drybird2020 · 06/04/2022 10:38

Hello @autienotnaughty. Yes, do join in. It's a very easy game. You have to do some writing and then come and tell us that you did some writing. That's it.

@Nouveaunew I'm doing it. Only small amounts but that's realistic. We now have a sick bug in the house which is not helping. How have you been getting on?

britneyisfree · 17/04/2022 22:18

Hi. How's everyone been getting on?

I slipped off for weeks and have just starte writing again tonight

Drybird2020 · 21/04/2022 14:44

Hello, how is everyone getting on? I've stalled on my current project as have returned to my finished novel for a bit of a rewrite.

I'm resuming daily writing from today. The spring energy is helping because I can get up earlier 😌

britneyisfree · 21/04/2022 15:12

Going well at the moment. 1,500 words in one session while little one was settling in at nursery!
How's everyone doing?

Coinchend · 27/04/2022 11:30

May I join? I started writing last year and am 80% through for my targetted word count. I wanted it finished by the end of Easter so that I could focus on redrafting but I have stalled. The remaining areas I have to write are scenes or chapters I didn't develop properly, and the ending, which I am undecided on. I know how it ends in terms of events, but not in terms of what the relationship looks like between the two main characters.

FInding this last 20% very difficult! I ended up printing the second half off and started the editing process, but realised it was just giving me an excuse not to finish it.

britneyisfree · 27/04/2022 13:42

@Coinchend wow well done!! Keep pushing! I'm about 50% there now and I've found if I take a day off in between it slows me down tons

I agree. I have not written since the start of the Easter holidays and now I am struggling. I was writing nearly every day. I need to get back into it, even if it is a paragraph.

Nouveaunew · 27/04/2022 22:25

@Coinchend
Welcome and we’ll done on all the writing.

I haven’t been great of late: work & fatigue/headaches have taken over. I want to get back into building it up slowly again.

Hi, can I join in? Currently rewriting a YA fantasy as my first draft was a bit lacking in plot. I write on my phone in dribs and drabs (Google docs), but I have trouble actually focusing on plotting/chapter planning etc. I really want to get it right this time as I love the characters and set up, just didn’t do them justice on the first pass.
Two kids, 2&5 to work around, and they both hate sleep, sigh.

Drybird2020 · 10/05/2022 17:11

Hello @GlumyGloomer I sympathise about fitting it around kids, especially when they are so young.

I'm writing every day in May. That's the plan.

Nouveaunew · 10/05/2022 19:11

Welcome @GlumyGloomer

Despite starting this thread, I haven’t been writing a lot! I’m in the process of giving up alcohol (Day 9) and maybe I’m genuinely exhausted and maybe I’m also using it as an excuse not to write, I don’t know!

I like the idea of setting the target of writing every day in May @Drybird2020

OP posts:
GlumyGloomer · 11/05/2022 16:03

Thanks for the welcome ☺
Writing every day in May is a great target, I think I'll try to work on my chapter plan every day and hopefully get something together by the end of the month.
Today I wrote out the back story, and tried to just list all the story events. I'm trying to still use events from the first draft as much as I can, and build in a more organic discovery of the back story, instead of the info dumps I had in the first draft. It's hard getting everything to slot into place though.

@Nouveaunew good luck!

GlumyGloomer · 12/05/2022 20:31

Aaaand no chapter planning today. I did manage to write a small paragraph. Maybe a target of 'do something vaguely like progress every day in May' is more my speed...

Nouveaunew · 12/05/2022 20:52

@GlumyGloomer
Thanks for the luck.

I can relate re incremental change
