Mumsnet MuNoWriMo in February 2022?

So, it's the final day of #NaNoWriMo21

Drafts that have not reached the 50,000-word target (mine is 10k short) will self-destruct on the stroke of midnight, so best get scribbling Wink

I hope that you all found it rewarding, whether to finish your first story, take a break from other projects, or re-write an existing one. So many committed writers on this board!

I've found it worked wonders for my 'productivity' (ugh, that word) and focus at a busy time of year, at least until the 'flu jab made me poorly, and I switched back to an existing MS that someone asked to see.

I will definitely be doing it again next year, but now I'm wondering about an informal Mumsnet #MuNoWriMo in February 2022? I have another project I'd like to build up a head of steam on, and this would carve out space for it.

Anyone interested?

I think you have to start when you have to start @Ylfa - although I’m not sure I could manage the hand written version - ouch. I enjoy writing morning creative prompts but that as far as I get.

That being said, I sat and started handwriting all my ideas, notes and general brain dump of my idea, including the new path. I think I can weave it….

What I have realised though, is that I absolutely have to have a deadline to motivate me. I am the worlds best procrastinator without Grin

Writing is how I procrastinate over everything else! Especially housework Grin

The things I do when I’m procrastinating instead of writing are really improving my life tbh, the house has never looked so good, the pets are enjoying loads of extra attention and there’s always something amazing in the slow cooker (and it’s almost always a bean chili). I expect February to be a very interesting and rewarding month in many ways! But yeah, same, the deadline and the daily deadlines are a big help. I think I average about 1750 words an hour when writing by hand so two hours = 2500 = ten A4 pages.

Ylfa · 30/01/2022 19:09

I’m not very good with numbers but aiming for 2,500 ish words anyway.

Dellabob123 · 31/01/2022 09:48

My god @Ylfa now I feel completely inferior- I’m happy with 500 words I a sittingShock

Hmm, I think I need to up my game…but I am a constant editor and perfectionist…I can write 1000 but constantly edit it down throughout. I am my own worst enemy.

Ylfa · 31/01/2022 10:28

No no please don’t, it’s mostly the garrulity of old age or something like that. I was always so paralysed by perfectionism, not always but since adolescence. And I gave up for years. There’s something so freeing about being post menopausal, my mind thinks like a seven year old again. It’s certainly not the calibre of writing I thought I aspired to. Basic is quite a good word for it.

Anyway I’ve been counting it wrong, it’s only about 1350 words. 😀 maybe we shouldn’t talk about numbers, I think those sort of comparisons are probably why I’ve never ever finished a nanowrimo challenge yet. It can be too discouraging ?

Ylfa · 31/01/2022 10:42

Can you postpone the editing until March?

Superwomble · 31/01/2022 10:46

I just found this thread and would love to join, I don't write regularly at all atm but this feels like a great way to kick start things. Hope I'm in time to join in?

FledglingFountainPen · 31/01/2022 11:40

Created an account for this! I write a lot for work in a corporate capacity, am a former journalist and dabbled in creative writing years ago, but this will be my first foray into serious creative writing.

Two kids under five so no idea how I'll find time but I've agreed with my husband I'll get Thursday nights completely to myself at least.

cloudmessenger · 31/01/2022 19:08

Welcome @Superwomble and @FledglingFountainPen !

I may try a post tagging everyone to start us off tomorrow. Exciting times.

I'm so not organised. But all I need to do is open my laptop and write something. I'm.going to get up half an hour earlier to make it happen.

IShouldBeWriting · 01/02/2022 09:05

Joining if I am allowed. I am on the third rewrite of my lockdown novel. Have got to pull something coherent together to justify the time I have put in over the last 18 months.

Icenii · 01/02/2022 09:19

I was doing really well but I've lost it. I'm trying not to edit at all but just coming to the end of the Farseer trilogy and realised how dire my writing is. I do plan to go back and enrich once I've just got the story out but still.

I've reached the part where my plans are a bit scetchy so I need to use this evening to write outlines for the next few chapters so I know what to write.

I'm 31k in.

Panicattheeverywhere · 07/02/2022 07:52

Can I join please, all be it a little late. I have about 20,000 words of a first draft that I started in lockdown that I’ve been avoiding.

cloudmessenger · 07/02/2022 19:19

@Panicattheeverywhere of course you’re welcome to join. We are all on the other thread, though.
