Anyone make money from erotic fiction?

Does anyone know if it's even feasible to make money writing erotic short stories? And if so how to go about it?

I've spent all my life writing fanfic (hopefully no judgement, please!) and now just wondering if I can make some extra cash doing this.

I have a Masters in Creative Writing and have had some poems/short stories published so feel I'm at least 'ok' at what I do but don't know if the idea of making a little extra pocket money from this is just a dream.

(Apologies if erotic fiction isn't spoken about here, I don't know the rules!)

I haven't done it myself (with erotica), but Amazon allows you to self-publish erotic fiction in various genres. First steps would be:

1. Sign up as an Amazon seller and download some free and 99p e-books in your preferred sub-genre, read them and read their feedback).

1. Join the Facebook group 20Booksto50K, which is extremely helpful regarding the finer points of sales techniques as you learn your craft. Start by doing a few searches in the group's posts and read some of the basic info that has already been given - don't leap in asking, "how do I make money with erotic fiction?" as if you expect them to answer in one paragraph.

I had a friend who used to make some change on the side writing Mills & Boon, although that was a few years back and I imagine the market looks a bit different now. But I'd probably start with whatever their current incarnation is.

Have just googled it out of curiosity and Mills and Boon have a page for "Aspiring Authors": www.millsandboon.co.uk/pages/aspiring-authors

So it seems like that's an option if you think you can get a bodice or two a-heaving.

I gather that you can make good money from erotic fiction. But you can't advertise on Amazon, or use a graphic book cover - they're strict!

Yes a family member has done very well. Been on book signing tours to America etc. I haven't read any as they're not my thing but I've read some Amazon reviews. She must have at least 10 published by now.
