I started back around February I think, and hoping to finish the first draft before the end of the year.
Anyone else fancy a chat/support thread?

Welcome HeyDemons Smile

Congratulations Pixiedust. It's probably no worse that writing with a non sleeping toddler Grin. There's no downside to trying is there?

Up to 36k now, still creeping towards the goal. For the purposes of moral I've decided that I'm aiming for 80k on the first draft. I always add a lot of description on my second pass, so it'll go up then.

Afternoon all, hope the sleeping is tolerable Glumy and waves to Pixiedust

I've just introduced a bull-terrier called Saint into mine, for no other reason than I saw a rather wonderful pit bull on Pittie Nation and I WANTED HIM.
Makes a change from my usual habit of characterful horses I suppose.

GlumyGloomer · 28/05/2021 09:11

MrsRussel that sounds like a perfectly good reason to me Smile
Toddler is hypothetically getting sleep trained at the weekend. Or she will crush my will in her tiny iron fist. Place your bets....

I had a brief panic about being half way through the year and not half way through the book, so I've had my head down over the last day or two and I'm nearly half way through the planned timeline. The story takes two weeks, first week will be about 40k. The second week may be bulkier, will have to see how it goes.

Having been quite pleased with myself this morning I've now realised that my last scene was too exposition heavy, so I have to redo it. It all comes I suppose of written without a proper plan.

OP posts:
GlumyGloomer · 30/05/2021 16:53

How is everyone doing? I'm getting nothing at all done this weekend.

MrsRussell · 30/05/2021 17:28

Chipping away here and there at "the other one" - I had a lightbulb moment with Bastard Sanctuary and threw myself at writing it up to there, and am now poking the romance again, simply because I missed my hero!

MrsRussell · 30/05/2021 17:28

How's the sleeping going Glumy?

Bakingdiva · 30/05/2021 17:35

I haven't managed to get much further but I have gone back and added in / changed some bits that I realised were missing or didn't work. Not a proper edit of anything but things I realised in the middle of the night needed work.
Hoping to get a bit further tonight.

Bakingdiva · 30/05/2021 21:53

Woohoo, finished chapter 7

GlumyGloomer · 30/05/2021 22:38

Well done Baking!

MrsRussel night 1 toddler screamed for 1 hour then cried herself to sleep, which made me feel a bit rubbish (I was in the room the whole time) but at least it worked. Night 2 and she screamed 10 minutes, then decided it was a game and has been playing around for over an hour. No end in sight yet...

Oh Glumy that sounds tough!

Congrats Baking!

Mrs Russell I love the joy you have in your story.
I’ve been mainly planning this weekend- setting up the chapters that will take me to my mid point. Going to aim just to get a couple done this week as I have some research to do as well.

Drybird2020 · 31/05/2021 22:51

@GlumyGloomer I have so much sympathy for you. When sleep comes back into your life it will be the most wonderful thing.

I'm re-drafting away, cutting the crap out of it. Feels good.

GlumyGloomer · 01/06/2021 04:44

Thanks Baru and Drybird. Night 2 she didn't sleep until 1am, but night 3 we had zero crying and she slept at 10.30. Since starting she's woken once per night instead of the 3-4 times we were getting, so heading in the right direction.

I'm trying to end a scene as it's getting a bit too waffley, at the same time I don't think they'd just walk away without learning everything they can.
I've definitely got a lot of editing to do when I get that far.

hello, people. I know I'm a bit late to the table, but may I join this thread? I'm writing a 'vampire' novel, currently at 31 pages, which I'd like to finish this year... hopefully joining in here will make me more self-accountable?

GlumyGloomer · 09/06/2021 13:32

Hello @zammorr,
It's gone a bit quiet here but you are very welcome to join.
Is this your first novel?
After a week of nothing much I finally got back to it with about 600 words yesterday. Still stuck on Thursday (evening now) but I at least have a plan for Fridays events.
I've never slavishly followed an in world timeline before, it's an interesting experience and turning out a fairly different product to my previous efforts. I find it goes a fair way towards making up for my lack of a proper chapter plan, as I still have something providing a bit of structure.

OP posts:
MrsRussell · 09/06/2021 14:01

Glad people are back! I felt like a bit of a numpty to keep bumping the thread!
I've done nowt, if anyone's curious, so I am in deepest awe and respect of anyone who did...

GlumyGloomer · 09/06/2021 19:00

Aw, I enjoy your updates MrsRussel, especially as you are working on 2 books simultaneously. I technically have a novella also on the go but it's a very different headspace so it's effectively paused while I focus on dragon boy.

BaruFisher · 10/06/2021 06:30

Morning all,
I’ve done very little as I am up to my eyeballs in real life stuff. Will have more time next week to get back at it.

Bakingdiva · 10/06/2021 18:03

I've managed to get some of chapter 8 written. I was struggling at the computer so went back to old school pen and paper for a bit. It's not the best writing ever but it's getting it moving and can be edited later (lots!)

GlumyGloomer · 10/06/2021 18:43

Baru real life happens to the best of us sometimes Wink

Baking well done on the progress. These days I can't imagine anything worse than writting long hand, guessing you have nice handwriting? My is practically a cypher Grin

No progress here, will try to write a bit later. I'm stuck on a particular subplot which I'm not at all enjoying. I'm honestly not sure why it's bothering me except that it's causing my more upbeat mc to go all angsty.

OP posts:
GlumyGloomer · 11/06/2021 22:33

About 600 words today.

OP posts:
MargaretThursday · 11/06/2021 22:52

I'm up to about 55k words, and think there's about another 2-3 chapters to go, so nearly done.

Well done Margaret must feel great to be on the home stretch.

Nice going Margaret! I’m in hotel quarantine from Monday for 2 weeks so hoping to get plenty done.
