Eek!

I hope this isthmus right place to post.
I have written a book using NaNoWriMo last year to write and now I've almost finished editing it. I sent off a very brief cover letter and chapter to an agent to just put out feelers and experience the process and I got an email back today asking for me to send in the whole thing as it stands now for them to look at.
Hence the Eek! I'm definitely not getting too excited but does anyone know whether I should do a week of edits before sending it in. I did tell them that it was at the rough first draft stage.....I'm just wondering how rough would be considered unprofessional?

Thank you both.
I'm hoping someone can get back to me early next week so I have some idea with regards to the contract.

@Mama1980 , what did the agent say exactly? Have they shown your manuscript to a publisher, who then offered you a pre-emptive contract? Or are they saying that the publisher would be interested in making you an offer once your manuscript is complete?

Mama1980 · 07/03/2021 19:24

They say they have shown my (very rough) manuscript/recommended it to a publisher who have offered a preemptive contract based on this.
They asked for my estimate on when I could have it finished by and a word count to inform the contract. I sent rough estimates to them Friday.
They say I should be receiving details early this week.

@Mama1980, have you seen an editorial letter from the publisher outlining what they are looking for in your story?

Mama1980 · 08/03/2021 16:21

I have seen a feedback letter, whereby they have given me some guidance and details of who they feel the intended audience would be etc. I heard today that they are happy with the timescale I tentatively suggested.
I have a agent contract which I'm getting reviewed and apparently should have another one by the end of the week with details of the offer from the publisher......does this sound about right?

Thank you all you're very kind. I still haven't told anyone in real life and won't until I have the actual contract all signed sealed and delivered lol.
LouiseMay - it's set in the 1800s. I am an archaeologist/historian by profession - I love Tudor and medieval history.

I have a publishing contract!! I can't believe it. I have a someone looking over it but so far no major issues. If she thinks it all looks good I'll sign Grin
It includes deadlines and a small advance. I'm so excited I could scream, but I have 3 children to go and read stories to so I won't lol.
