Has anyone tried submitting to an independent publisher?

I know they are generally much smaller, but has anyone had any success with this?

You’ll need to check individually with each, but many still won’t accept unagented submissions, and those that do, like the excellent Tramp Press, often publish only a couple of books a year, so chances aren’t sky-high. Also, it’s a bad time for small indies — some are unlikely to make it through the pandemic.

The ones I've looked at said it's fine to not be represented.
