Writing a fiction piece in memoir format?

Hi,
I don't even know if this is possible, since I know that most memoirs are written by famous people but...
The main character of the piece I am trying to write is 26. In the past year she has worked to make a better life for herself, but feels as though she needs to talk about her very chaotic childhood.
She is not famous by any means, but feels the only way she can resolve her inner conflict is to write it down, with reflections such as "Looking back I wonder how I might have dealt with this differently..."
Would someone realistically write about one's life in memoir format, and is this an acceptable way for me to tell her story thus far?

Have a look at William Boyd esp Any Human Heart, but also Sweet Caress. Beautifully written, def memoir style. I really like it as a style

It's not memoir format if it's a fictional story of someone's entire life narrated by said fictional character - it's picaresque. Like David Copperfield and many other classic books. Was very fashionable in olden times. Is that what you mean? If you read any of those books you'll see that such a book needs a lot of big dramatic things to happen in their life to keep the reader interested. And the protagonist has to be special in some way.

Of course you may just mean first person narrated fiction which is standard and nothing to do with memoir or an account of a 'life'...
