Hi, I'm new here. This is my first post.
So....I'm approaching a rather big birthday (Can't say which one, but it begins with 4!!) and am having a midlife crisis over all the things l haven't achieved (mostly....write a book)
I used love writing and had a few twist in the tale type short stories published in women's magazines before my kids were born but nothing since.
I desperately want to get back in the habit of writing....l don't really think it matters too much what l write....I just need to write something!!! I am a terrible procrastinator!! When the kids were younger, l would tell myself it'll be easier once they're older, but now l work longer hours, have 3 messy teenagers that want constant chauffeuring and a houseful of rescue animals, laundry, clutter and paperwork!!
So thinking a course might be good....as it would give me someone to answer to. Has anyone tried the Curtis brown creative online "staring your novel" course. Or does anyone know of any good general creative writing courses (online) to get me thinking again?
Any advice/ soothing words/ encouragement welcome 😊

I haven't tried the Curtis Brown courses but know (online) a few people who have and they were pleased.

Jericho Writers also offer good online courses. I have done one of theirs, and it was excellent, although that particular one was about editing an existing novel so wouldn't be the right one for you at this stage.

Hi TiredMumofteens! I love your username - I have 3 dcs ranging in age from 12 to baby, so I am shattered most of the time!

I've not tried any on-line courses but attended a local part-time evening course in creative writing a couple of years ago. It was really great to be amongst like-minded individuals and hearing different ideas plus I learnt a few things along the way. It got me thinking and it got me writing, something I always enjoyed as a child but shelved as life took over. Best thing I ever did was take it up again especially as I am a sahm; it has given me focus, challenged me to be creative and given my brain something to ponder on. I joined a writing group and hope to join another soon so it has had a social spin off too.

Good luck, I hope you are writing again soon!
