Please can you help me name a village in a story?

It's a very English village, Norman church, little post office, cobbled alleyways, a river, a cottage where a famous poet or painter or someone once lived, a friendly high street, a kind of English 'our town' where the protagnonist grows up before moving to a big city.

Is it in a group of similarly named villages?

Little Cotter.

Fenningham

Sleepyhead11 · 13/01/2019 11:53

Bytham-on-the-Hill

Casterton-upon-Avon

Little Doddington

Sleepyhead11 · 13/01/2019 11:59

I love Little Doddington. It sounds so cosy and safe, and the kind of place you would grow up itching to escape from, only to long to go back as an adult when the world gets scary. Thank you!

Casterton-upon-avon doesn't work for me, just because I grew up in a tiny north of england Hamlet called Casterton just outside Kirkby Lonsdale, otherwise it up be Ideal. X

Thinkerton Rye.

(There's a Thankerton in Lanarkshire in Scotland, but not a Thinkerton).

BreevandercampLGJ · 13/01/2019 12:24

Not Midsomer.

The body count was shocking last night. Grin

Sleepyhead11 · 13/01/2019 12:27

haha

The village name I love in fiction is Godsend in I capture the Castle. I think it's wonderful and would love to come up with something like that.

Some of the villages in the Cotswolds have these sorts of names...Bourton on the Water, Little Rissington, Lower Slaughter, Stow on the Wold etc. etc. Inspiration perhaps?

I have struggled with this too and used a sort of amalgamation of names from villages surrounding the place where I live in the end.
