Received an expression of interest from an agent today!

Am over the moon. The email said:

"I'm interested in this, though I'm not sure the material is quite there yet." They then said they would be happy to talk more about it if I am unsigned.

Does it sound as if they are considering actual representation? I responded pretty much straight away and am awaiting a response. How long should I wait to hear about arranging a meeting?

I begun submitting 10 weeks ago, so will be on tenterhooks until I hear back!

Am so pleased for you. If they've asked for more it's a good sign. Do you have any other query letters out there ATM?

I am waiting to hear from four other agencies. I've received handful of rejections so far, so am really excited about this response.

The agent and I have a telephone conversation arranged now. They have some concerns about the style but as it is non-fiction and I've only written a couple of sample chapters, hopefully we can rethink the style and work on it together? Fingers crossed.

I'd recommend a simple email to the other people you've sent it to, along the lines of,
"Hey, morning, etc... Thank you for considering the manuscript / enquiry I sent on...
As a matter of courtesy I wanted to let you know that 'xxx' have requested the full ms. Warm regards, XX".

They're all v v competitive and it might make them dig yours out of the slush pile.

Oh, and include the phrase..
"The agent / agency have arranged a convo with me on ** in two weeks, so I'll assume that if I haven't heard from you by xxx / the end of the month you are not interested.
Warmest regards"

Thanks OW I have done this.

So far have heard back from one agency saying they'll get back to me by the end of this week.

The outcome of the conversation was revise and resubmit.

But have received another expression of interest from a different agency. Speaking with them tomorrow.
