I do a bit of typing/editing for someone who has self published her children’s book and she had the idea of making it an audiobook, has anyone done this?

Yes, it can be done through royalty share or by paying a one off fee for the narrator (usually calculated as a charge per finished hour (pfh)).

A professional narrator is preferred because they’ll have the experience and the set up needed to produce high quality audio.

You’re generally looking at spending a four figure sum to get one produced.

Alternatively she can approach companies that have experience with indies. I know several authors who have audio books through Tantor, for example, but Tantor approached them and I don’t know if they do children’s books.

Aah that’s helpful thank you for replying. :) Money isn’t generally a problem but four figures is probably pushing it for her.
