Is anyone going to enter the This Morning novel competition?

I'm about to self-publish my first novel but have started my second which I might enter.
They want first 3000 words and a synopsis.

I'm tempted, but some of the things in the T&Cs is putting me off a bit - the stuff about 'the Promoter' basically being able to do whatever it likes with your entry regardless of whether or not you win. I don't have any experience with this sort of thing; anyone know if these T&Cs mean that we lose the right to (try and publish) our writing after the competition?

My reading of it is that they want to be able to use the excerpts on television as they want. It doesn't read to me like they get copyright of it, just that they have the right to use it.

By making an entry and participating in this competition, you grant the Promoter permission to use the entry in any way it wants in relation to the Promotion.

That's the only bit i can see, I don't see that you are giving over the copyright, but if anyone reads it differently, I'd like to know before i commit.

Interesting. I wonder then if they will be put off by colourful language and slightly fruity themes. They won't be able to read words like 'shag' and 'arse' out on air, will they? not really

I think that's exactly the kind of thing which that clause is in there for, so that they can ask you to leave those bits out or tone them down in the reading out.

I've entered -mailed it off last night. The way I look at it is there is no better way to get your work seen by publishers than this. Many wont even look at stuff sent unsolicited. I don't care what the t and c s are I just want a chance!!

Yes and I did too. But what do you reckon? I can't work out if they'll get loads of entries or not, because the deadline is so short? I think that people are more likely to go for the MN one because there's time to get your act together. not that I think I've got any chance in either really
