Especially people working to a deadline. We can all go 'Bah' and 'Waah' at each other and be even more distracted from actually getting on with our work.

Did manage over 2000 today though Grin. Just flapping about next week when DS will be on half term...

Sure. No deadline at the mo though, although I do have a couple of projects on the go and a terrible procrastination habit. None today and only about 1400 the day before. I tend to do more on weekends with no work work.

I need to get some stuff in print over the next six months, to update cv. Have been monumentally slack and recently started new job where I get to review gazillions of portfolios which all highlight utter inadequacies in my own.

Mostly shorter length stuff, but I want to get in the habit as this year I am going to finish nano if it kills me. And it might.

Next week is also my nemesis, but I know that once it is out of the way, I'll have a lot more time.

How long is your current project?

Ullena · 25/05/2013 09:30

I am literally just finishing off the final few pages of part one of my novel: 36,000 words down already, hurray!

So just another 504,000 left to go...if I can manage 2,500 per day then it will all be over by Samhain Thankfully I know exactly what I am writing now plot wise after 15 years of development so just a matter of fine tuning the dialogue along the way.

I really need a proper computer to write it on though. My early notes and drafts are all handwritten, and now the final version is on my tablet. Not ideal. Have to transfer it over and proofread it before printing off a copy.

Good morning. Well I have played all my lives in Candy Crush Saga, had a rummage round the livelier discussions on here, so now I am going to go out the back for a fag and then open up Chapter 7 and get cracking. I have told myself that the first draft needs to be pretty much done by next Friday, then I will sit on it for a week, revise throughout the following week and hand it over on Friday 14th.

Hope this all works. I did try Nano last year but too much Real Life intervened, even though I already had the commission.

Lol ullena, the fifteen years doesn't make me feel so inadequate, and great that you are making real progress at last - fantastic!

Will check in later - put that fag out and crack on, sgb.

Ullena · 25/05/2013 22:13

I was offered the chance to publish my work today! Now I really have to stay on track!

prissyenglisharriviste · 25/05/2013 23:49

Waaaaaaaah! Fabulous! That's great news! You must be thrilled x

SolidGoldBrass · 25/05/2013 23:57

Ullena, congratulations! What sort of thing is yours eg sci fi, historical, crime? I have managed about 1700 today. Will try to get another 300 or so before going to bed, but I'm havering about the next scene...

Fantasy adventure Grin I am a tad excited, yes.

SolidGoldBrass · 26/05/2013 20:43

It is exciting, isn't it? I have no actual words so far today as had to take DS to the park but did take pen and paper and rough out at least something of the structure for the last four chapters. I used to be a great one for proper outlines, but this book has just kind of evolved along the way (I knew roughly where it was going, but it's mostly been, well this has got to happen at some point, but this happens first...).

nice work for a half term Bank Holiday! -5000 here, I'm cutting (ouch)

Ullena · 27/05/2013 19:38

4000 today, 2000 yesterday, so well on track

SolidGoldBrass · 28/05/2013 11:40

Really didn't do terribly well yesterday (apart from a quick scribble at the edge of the sandpit where I outlined the end of the chapter)_ but woke up nice and early this moring and got about 650 down...

Ended up doing more yesterday: total of 6000. Only 2000 today though, well so far...the night is young and I am an insomniac

Ullena · 29/05/2013 21:48

Another 3000 today so far. Didn't manage any more yesterday after all.

Ullena · 30/05/2013 10:27

Did another 1000 before bed last night. So yesterday was a total of 4000. That brings me up to 14,000 words so far this week. I am aiming to manage 40,000 a month: publisher gave me a scary deadline!

SolidGoldBrass · 01/06/2013 03:28

About 2000 today, not quite on schedule and publisher very eager to have the thing. Oh well. Sleepless nights ahead...

Am now at 24,000. In other news, I experimented with namechanging and messed it up, logged off, forgot my Mumsnet password, and then discovered that my e-mail account had been hacked! Can't get password reset sent to new e-mail. Arrggghhhh! Have since reregistered - I was Ullena, btw.

Also, I cannot listen to Celine Dion whilst writing unless I intend to write a love scene...Blush

SolidGoldBrass · 08/06/2013 11:22

Managed over 3000 yesterday. Eep. Obviously a little tiny bit behind schedule. However, I am going to take a print out of the Whole Thing So Far with me tomorrow (when running my stall at an event) and have a thorough read/pick up of plot issues and stuff so then I can just breeze through the last couple of chapters. Hopefully...

Commiserations on loss of username, Ullena.
