As the title says really!

Me: After several years of dithering with short stories, I committed myself to Nanowrimo last month and managed to bash out a 50,000 first draft of an idea I've had for ages. There is some excrutiating crap in there but also the bare bones of a plot and some interesting characters. So I'd really like to spend 2011 trying to develop it into something better.

But I need some company so that we can mutually kick each other's arses when the temptation to watch Holby City is proving too great. Anyone else?

Ha, same here BsshBossh . . . it's the thought of slinking back on here empty-handed after doing nothing/wallowing in self-doubt that keeps me starting the pomodoro clock ticking. Here's to a good week! Wine

ninah · 28/05/2011 11:45

thanks bb it certainly required diplomatic creative word skills! phew, now I can get back to the novel, it should seem like a breeze now lol

mittenkittenhasthumbs · 30/05/2011 10:54

Wrote after dinner, then late last night: 812 words.

End of the scene / chapter glimpsed on the horizon.

ninah · 30/05/2011 21:23

I've achieved my target word count for the month, with one major scene left to write. Now to print it out and try to make sense of it all. I'm really enjoying this one but it's not as obedient as the last one in terms of planning, so there might be a lot more revision required. Still, the half way point is in sight!

mittenkittenhasthumbs · 31/05/2011 12:21

Go, ninah!

660 words last night. Still not at end of scene!

BsshBossh · 31/05/2011 14:22

Well done ninah for reaching your month's target Smile.

Due to my cold I'm a week, perhaps even a week and a half behind my target but nevermind. I'm cracking the whip: 1636 words today and should be able to finish Chp 15 tomorrow if I plough on without thinking about it.

I had hoped I'd have completed Chp 16 (and therefore Part 3 out of a 4-Part novel) by the end of May, but that's not going to happen.

Just need to keep writing each day (except weekends/public holidays) and not think about writing. I still want to have completed the entire novel by in July.

belledechocchipcookie · 31/05/2011 14:26

Hello Smile

Oh, well done ninah and Bssh! (and everyone else, I've not read the last page yet).

My novel's now over 39k, I should finish it by the end of the week. Son has been unwell over the weekend so have been a little busy. I've not heard anything from them about my picture books, sent them an email a couple of weeks ago asking as I'd like to send them elsewhere if they are not right for them and they have not bothered to email me back so I'm just going to concentrate on my novel for now and look for another publisher later.

ninah · 31/05/2011 17:33

thanks everyone
i should point out my target was puny readily achievable Grin
hope you shake off that cold bb! and ds is ok now, belle.
mk you're in the zone

belledechocchipcookie · 31/05/2011 17:36

You should increase your target Ninah! Grin He's on the mend (thank goodness). Not as snotty.

My novel's just hit 40K! I need to add some more and remove some though.

ninah · 31/05/2011 22:09

spits out Wine
no way! I've got to sort out the gibberish I've written so far
anyway the month is practically over now. here's to June!

belledechocchipcookie · 01/06/2011 00:21

Grin Oh, go on!!

BsshBossh · 01/06/2011 14:29

1066 words today and Chp 15 is complete (2 days ahead of schedule). Will start Chp 16 tomorrow. OMG, it's June already!!!!!

makemineamojito · 02/06/2011 03:03

I haven't been on here for a while as I just haven't been writing as much as I'd like to - at least not much of my novel. Have started a blog though and that's a great way to get some writing practice in. Just can't compete at the moment with all of you who are doing x words per day! Glad to see everyone's progressing though.

ninah · 02/06/2011 08:38

hey, mohito, it's not a competition. some of us like to post word counts as a motivation thing, but no one judges if you don't write! stay on thread!
I'm really curious about blogging. Don't think I'd find the regular commitment easy at all, when the words are public (is ok scribbbling away in private). Is it a blog about writing? are you projecting a certain persona when you write it or do you find it easy to write just as you?
I'm taking some time off at the moment. I need to make some revisions to the last project and reread and restructure this one, but I'm telling myself I need a bit more distance from them at present - I'm 'researching', that famous euphemism for mnetting, and generally putting it off Smile

ninah · 02/06/2011 08:38

mojito, even
illiterate

BsshBossh · 02/06/2011 09:07

Hello makemineamojito, yes please stay on thread. I am exceeding my word count each day but that doesn't mean that most of half those words are gibberish. There's much re-writing to be done, I can see that clearly. But my aim is to simply get the words down, edit/revise on the go and then do a proper re-draft afterwards.

BsshBossh · 02/06/2011 09:09

I meant to say, "that doesn't mean that most of half those words are not gibberish" Grin

Actually, is that sentence correct? Basically I mean to say I'm writing loads but most of it is rubbish needs a lot of re-writing.

BsshBossh · 02/06/2011 16:26

Started Chp 16 today and managed 1642 words. That's me done now until next Tuesday as family are descending on our house Friday through Monday as we celebrate my DD's 3rd birthday Smile. Have a productive few days, ladies. See you Tuesday.

Keep going!

ninah · 02/06/2011 17:18

Happy birthday bb's dd! ah, 3 is a lovely age
words today 0 Smile

mittenkitten · 03/06/2011 13:08

Hi all and HB to BB's DD!

My total words since May 30 . . . approximately 0. Life (and some excuse-making) intervened. Blush

About to make a cup of double-strength tea (!) and try to get to end of scene.

Procrastinating here too, DL.

One word . . . POMODORO. Grin

belledechocchipcookie · 03/06/2011 18:01

Happy belated birthday to BB's DD. Smile

I have rewritten the last 1/3 of my novel and, after giving up on the publisher, have heard from them! They still want 1 out of the 3 picture books I submitted months ago but want me to work on it more before they say yes/no. I find this hard, I have so many ideas I don't want to just go ahead incase I chose the wrong ones so I've emailed a synopsis. Do you think this is OK?? Confused

mittenkitten · 03/06/2011 19:58

At 494 right now, DL. If I can do it, you can! Smile

ninah · 03/06/2011 20:20

you've got plenty of time to rake through 3 chapters and write a synopsis dandy! all evening! I find the synopsis one of the hardest things - anyone else?
belle that is fantastic news, good for you! I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for direction as to how you should approach the rewrite. Hope you hear back soon with some clear direction. And well done for your novel, too! all sounds v positive Smile
