Hi,

I will be relocating to Northern Ireland for work in healthcare. I'll be communting to Newtonabbey, but I have very little knowledge of the different areas in NI and would really appreciate some advice.

A bit about me:

  • Moving on my own
  • In my 20s
  • Will be working shifts as healthcare professional
  • Looking for somewhere that feels safe travelling in and out of at unsociable hours
  • Happy with renting alone or sharing if its a good set up
  • Commute up to 30mins

Any advice, local knowledge or experiences from people who have made a similar move would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

You could just live in Newtownabbey? Glengormley and Mallusk have nice parts, steer clear of Rathcoole/Monkstown etc (especially if you're coming from the South but just in general they're rough).

Newtownabbey is v well connected by the motorway, most of Belfast and Antrim would be within a 30 minute drive.

Agree. Live in Glengormley/Carnmoney. Or if want to be halfway to town for your social life, live around Fortwilliam.

Commuting via car or public transport?

Car or public transport for your commute makes all the difference.
you could also go the other side and live in Jordanstown or Greenisland - both nice and leafy, but further out from Belfast
