I was talking to a relative recently and mentioned DS should be called for his next health/ development check soon.
She said, 'you're so lucky that you will get an appointment so many places parents just can't'
I started to agree with her and feel guilty about getting something, someone else can't. Then thought wait no. I am not lucky to get it, those other babies are getting a disservice. The fault is with the HSE, not with me being lucky.
I do know what she meant, but I also think that's the wrong narrative.
Suppose I am both giving out that the HSE need to do better. But also that people need to expect to receive the care they deserve, not to feel 'lucky' that they get the bare minimum.
