Election 2024 . Not that one, though the Trump victory is sure to influence some of what we are threatened and promised. presumably we'll have a date soon.

The policy commitment to support live exports is in the Agriculture and Fisheries section of the manifesto of Independent Ireland, which is the broad alliance of a number of independent candidates. This is the link to their homepage:
Independent Ireland

You have to click on 'policies' and there's a link to PDFs of the individual policies . This is under the heading
'Exports, Tillage, TAMS, Environment'

Ensure continuation of live export markets and oppose EU policies that threaten them. Support live export of dairy calves and weanlings from all herds

Won't be supporting them, thanks for this 👍 Any type of animal abuse or exploitation is a firm no from me. I'm disappointed as I felt they would be viable opposition as well as Aontú but no thanks.

Independent Ireland supporting live cattle exports - thanks for the heads up @MarieDeGournay.
They won't get a vote for me.
I think we are a cruel people when it comes to animals.

Even the massive issue with over breeding & rehoming centres are full. Animal rights don't seem to be a big issue for any party.

I got mine Wednesday, you'll be fine with a form of I. D & a utility bill as proof of address.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 24/11/2024 12:09

Yes our voting cards arrived last week. I would check you're on the register I know from a local FB group that some people have somehow been removed and had to be re-registered! So it does happen. Turning up with ID (which you're supposed to do anyway) won't help if you're not actually on the register.

deeahgwitch · 24/11/2024 14:41

DH,DDs and I got ours but DS 1 voting card didn't come. 🙄

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 24/11/2024 14:47

Has he had one before @deeahgwitch ?

deeahgwitch · 24/11/2024 15:41

Yes @LifeInAHamsterWheel

Irish times poll in this morning. 3 main parties are neck on neck.

The state of the parties, when undecided voters are excluded, and compared with the most recent poll on November 14th, is: Fianna Fáil 21 per cent (up two points); Sinn Féin 20 per cent (up one); and Fine Gael 19 per cent (down six).

Among the smaller parties, the Green Partyy is at 4 per cent (up one); Labourr 4 per cent (down one); Social Democratss 6 per cent (up two); People Before Profitt 3 per cent (up one); Aontúú_ 3 per cent (no change); Independents (including Independent Ireland) 17 per cent (down three).

The polls are so funny aren't they! This is the poll from the Sunday Independent yesterday in relation to first preference votes😍 Roll on Friday! This poll was taken Thursday before the awful incident in Kanturk so no doubt the figure for FG will be less & other parties will benefit.

What % of the vote are you expecting Aontú to get.

I'm actually unsure. Peadar Toibín initially was hoping for 10 seats but there has been huge momentum & support for them so who knows. They only have one seat in the Dáil so anymore would be a bonus so their growth can continue for the next election.
Aontú are running 43 candidates with one in every constituency which is really good going for a small, conservative party who don't have the huge PR machine behind them like the main parties.
I honestly don't know. Who knows. FF look likely to take the most seats..

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/11/2024 09:28

A lot can happen in a week (well, 4 days) but I think we'll end up with the same coalition we currently have.

Minus the Greens I think. The biggest question is who will be the 3rd party.

Definitely not the Greens. I think SH & MM know the Greens policies are very unpopular as is Roderic O Gorman (who probably won't get re-elected, the clip board incident in his constituency did not do him any favours!)

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/11/2024 09:37

Sorry yes, of course minus the Greens! I will be delighted to be rid of them!

I'd say it'll be FF/FG/SF for certain. The rest remains to be seen.

Didn't SH say he wouldn't go in with SF?

mollyfolk · 25/11/2024 09:46

Yes - maybe labour instead of the greens.

Looks like Sinn Fein aren't doing well enough to actually form a government. Sure who would they go in with.

This leaders debate will be very important anyway.

SF have had a surge since the weekend.
I don't like SF or Mary Lou's policies but I have seen ML out canvessing & she is very, very good with the public. She comes across genuine & is naturally friendly.

Exactly @LifeInAHamsterWheel Look at the care referendum & the Ditch releasing the Attorney Generals advice literally hours before the election which I'm certain swayed the undecided ! Anything can happen

mollyfolk · 25/11/2024 09:58

I'm not on board with SF policies either: but I'm more social democrats/labour person anyway.

But ML is very strong. Their message at the moment is Voting for us is the only way to get the government out.
