Can anyone recommend any characterful inner Dublin neighbourhoods for a mooch and a coffee?

Want to get away from the main city centre for a local stroll one afternoon - anywhere with a nice place to stop for a coffee or a pint?

I recommend a walk down Patricks Street with a nip in to Patrick's Cathedral and grounds. Then a pint in Fallons pub - fan Guinness if that's your thing. Then a mooch up Francis Street afterwards popping into/window shopping in the various antique shops, art galleries and tatoo parlours in the area. Not far from the city centre - 15 min walk - so not a big trip, but nice. Then pop into Queen of Tarts and Gutter Bookshop - both on Cow's Lane on the way back into town. Alternatively swing into the Chester Beatty near Dublin Castle. Super cool Asian art collection and lovely cafe.

If you're in the city centre, hop on the Dart! Malahide, Howth, Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, Dalkey, Bray and Greystones all make for a lovely way to spend an afternoon
