Where to shop for furniture?

Looking for some Craicnet advice! We've gone sale agreed on a house and need to start thinking about furnishing the place now!
Looking for some ideas on where to look around other than EZ Living, Harvey Norman, Meadows & Byrne ... I'm clueless!
Haven't done this in years, and last time we bought our furniture it was from a mix of IKEA, charity shops and Harvey N. I'd love to look around at a few different/interesting places and brands this time.
Looking for mid range couches, dining table and chairs, beds etc. I love the scandi chic look.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

don't know where u are, but https://homelinefurniture.ie/about-us
good all round prices and actually the order went wrong but the response was excellent so would recommend, in tipperary.

I am keen to know the answer to this too.
EZ living furniture are mainly shipped in from China, the quality is questionable.
mattresses are generally Irish made so that’s something.

I got my bed made by a company in navan, igbeds I think they’re called. At least that was an Irish company.

I quite like DFs for Sofas as they are made in the Uk, which is far better than imported from China.

But please let me know how you get on and also the source of the furniture…

Mamabear999 · 22/09/2024 21:01

Roughly where are you based?
Try sheepbridge Interiors near Newry. Always seeing them on Facebook, seem reasonably priced

deeahgwitch · 24/09/2024 08:24

Check the mattresses can be flipped over. We got caught on that.
It reduces the length of time you have a mattress if it can only be turned rather than flipped over.

I had my eye on a sofa from EZ Living furniture and keep getting emails about their incredible Sales.
However the sofa has never been reduced and in fact it is dearer than when I first looked at it. Sad

I’d steer clear of EZ living - all of their stuff comes flat packed with no option for them to build it for you, if I wanted Ikea style service I would’ve just gone there (and saved £££)!! We used them to furnish DD’s bedroom and everything was low quality, Chinese imports with imperfections galore. Her bed arrived with a massive chip out of the headboard - I contacted them to ask for a replacement and they simply blamed it on us

Harvey Norman are good, especially when they have a sale on. We’ve had some lovely pieces from them.

ciaopizza · 27/09/2024 07:34

We recently went round all the ones you've mentioned looking to a decent chest of drawers for the bedroom. All were terrible quality. Nothing solid, just flimsy drawers wobbly on the runners. At least with IKEA you know what you're getting.

There are 2 different EZ Living companies.
Completely different companies
EZ Living Interiors
and
EZ Living Furniture

Very confusing.

SunMootStars · 27/09/2024 08:14

Thank you for all the replies. I might steer clear of EZ Living by the sounds of it.
We got some nice stuff in SOUL at beacon south quarter some years ago, but it seems a totally different shop now.
Do Arnotts still do furniture?
We are in Dublin btw.

There's also Strawbridge - I haven't bought anything from them though so can't comment on the quality.

How long ago was this? 2 years ago we got kitchen table, chairs, bar stools, couches, coffee table and beds and all were and still are perfect. Wondering if the quality has decreased since then?

This was around the same time - we got a bed, wardrobe and bedside cabinets and all had some sort of fault. Maybe we were just unlucky?

We had to put them out in the garage to air for a few days as they smelt so strongly of chemicals. DD’s air purifier was going mad! I wouldn’t feel comfortable again using them because of this

Shopgirl1 · 27/09/2024 17:01

Arnotts worth a look

Friendofdennis · 27/09/2024 17:19

I know it will not have everything you need but you can get some wonderful sofas tables chairs etc from Homesense and I see that there is one in Dublin. We have bought some amazing sofas and many other gorgeous pieces from Homesense over the years

FromCuddleLand · 27/09/2024 17:23

I would say at least 80% of our furniture is from charity shops such as Sally army and hospice care. Amazing quality that will last for a fraction of the cost of the tacky over priced shit you buy new. Also Facebook marketplace is a good place to start.

Yes they are two different companies with completely different stock. So it’s confusing when people mention EZ Living as it’s unclear which EZ living they are talking about.

Good Quality furniture is hard to come by. We have found Casey’s good and they deliver and assembled when we bought a bed from them.

Our negative experience was with EZ Living Interiors - I can’t speak for the furniture one

deeahgwitch · 30/09/2024 15:10

Yes, it is do confusing.
It is EZ Living Furniture not EZ Living Interiors that keep sending emails to me about their fantastic sales and yet the sofa I like isn't reduced.

deeahgwitch · 27/12/2024 10:40

Guess what !!!

I got an email from EZ Living Furniture about their Biggest Sale Ever !

Is the sofa I have my eye on reduced ?
It is like f*ck.
Once again 🙄

I bought some chairs and bar stools from Sklum - a Spanish company / v similar to CA Designs in Dublin but more moderately priced - Lovely quality and leather rather thank fake leather seats which are hard to source. I bought our table from Browsers Limerick ( it's an Ethnicraft bok table - very lovely) sofas came from Sofa.com in the North- fab quality. I bought a lot of dntiques from Ross's auction house in Belfast - thry have a monthly sale and can arrange shipping ( expensive but no more so than new)

Katherineryan1986 · 27/12/2024 17:58

Barker & Stonehouse - we recently bought dining room furniture, the sales guy in the store was very helpful, fetching different chairs to compare with the table etc.
The delivery guy also assembled the furniture and took away all the packaging.
Seamless service.

Is there a store in Dublin or do you just order online? Looks like nice stuff but would need to see and try in store before ordering. Afraid of beautiful but uncomfortable chairs etc!

I don't think there is a Barker & Stonehouse in Ireland @Katherineryan1986

Radyward · 28/12/2024 10:57

I love Fuchsia in longford . Fab stuff and not badly priced

loveisanopensore · 29/12/2024 22:21

Got our couch from EZ living furniture and the delivery drivers assembled it for us.
A bench and side tables from Dunnes.
Charity shops can be fantastic. I got my dressing table and a sideboard from focus ireland.
