Yet another €500m to go in to the National Children's Hospital pushing the cost of it over €2B

TWO BILLION EURO!!!!

FFS.

That really puts the RTE pay scandal and Toy Show The Musical into the halfpenny place.

When are we going to have an inquiry into that????

Government approves additional €500 million for Children's Hospital, pushing costs over €2 billion

The new funding brings the previous budget of €1.73 billion – which was already well above initial spending forecasts – to €2.24 billion.

It's just typical though really. Hardly worth a second look. There'd be war if this was in France.

Not to mention the cost of an inquiry, which would no doubt go on forever and ultimately achieve nothing. Depressing stuff.

The project is a complete omnishambles. Bad design, poor project management plus gangster contractor = financial disaster waiting to happen.

However - I spent a week in Crumlin with one of my DC in December and the place is absolutely falling apart. It’s been patched together with stop gap solutions for decades and at this stage it’s an insult to our kids to treat them there. Broken windows, other windows which don’t open, close to non-existent parent facilities, tiny corridors jammed with hospital equipment you’re tripping over every time you walk out of the room. Even the MRI machine is in a bloody shipping container. The staff are great but the conditions are grim.

As far as I’m concerned - ridiculous cost aside - the new hospital can’t open soon enough.

And no blo*dy accountability 🥲

3luckystars · 15/02/2024 19:25

Why oh why are they pushing ahead with it in Dublin? It’s a total disgrace. They could have built an absolutely fabulous palatial hospital with beautiful grounds and playgrounds and beautiful facilities just 30 minutes outside of Dublin City.

Yes people from Dublin would have had to travel a small bit like the rest of the country but it would be a genuine place of recovery and not in an inner city money pit with no bloody parking!!!!!

It’s like the concord fallacy, nobody will pull out now.

Wasn't Noel Smyth offering a free site at Newlands Cross ?
And don't forget all the money wasted on the failed attempt to put it with the Mater Hospital during Bertie's time. 🙄🙄🙄

TheRulerofThings · 16/02/2024 04:05

@3luckystars I passed the site yesterday. The building itself is complete, they’re at interior fit out stage now. In terms of pulling out I think that ship sailed a long time ago.

Absolutely redicoulous in the timing of how long it's taking to build this hospital. Should of been built on a green field site.
Connolly Hospital ended up getting the satellite childrens hospital which is open now I think about three years.
I think theres less beds in this building than in both Crumlin and Temple street combined and aren't they going to be closed after this opens?

LadyEloise1 · 20/02/2024 09:09

Meanwhile all we hear in the media is the RTE scandal. Yes what happened is disgraceful but nothing new in non accountable Ireland and its peanuts compared with the cost of the tax payer funded Children's Hospital.
That suits the Government. Sad
