Anyone living in New Lodge able to advise?

Hoping someone local can give me some advice.

My husband was born in NI, is from a Protestant background but doesn’t identity as such.

I’m from England and have no religious beliefs but have lived here long enough to understand a lot of the local cultural issues.

Weve been looking for a housing transfer to be closer to my partners family. We’ve found a potential mutual exchange to New Lodge.
it certainly fits the bill in terms of proximity to family and is handy for the town
However, I’m aware that the area is predominantly nationalist. I’ve no issue at all with this and nor does my partner and we don’t support any football teams etc that would cause any kind of offence

But I’m just wondering if anyone who lives/has lived there can tell me if we are likely to have any issues
I do have an English accent but I’ve never had any issues anywhere despite often being told I would be unsafe in certain areas.

My partners family tend to have a very ‘us and them’ attitude and are convinced we would be murdered but they’re also the kind of people who believe anything outside of their own estate is dangerous so their opinion doesn’t hold much weight for me.

i tend to take the view that trouble can (and will) happen anywhere if it’s going to and that places often get a worse reputation that necessary based on long past or occasional issues.

That being said, I would hate to move to somewhere if we actually would face issues or not be welcome.

Any personal experiences are very welcome.

Do you have children? Just thinking of school and uniforms and all that marking you out as Protestant.
It’s ridiculous really but something to consider. Otherwise I do know of Protestants who didn’t advertise their religion living there, but it was a while ago and I don’t know what it’s like now. I’m wondering if there is a community group you could ask. I imagine it would be fine most of the time but I’m not a good enough source to say for definite to go for it. Sorry that’s not much help.

Have you been to new lodge? It's pretty grim and quite insular.

The English accents wouldn't be a problem though.

Like squeeky said, I don't think the accent would be a problem....but...
New Lodge used to be on the news a lot when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s.
