Hi, I’m planning to move back to Ireland permanently next year with my family. I’m going to rent out my house in the UK. Do I pay tax on this income to the British or Irish government? If anyone has done this could they let me know there’s a lot of conflicting advice out there! Thank you

The short answer is both. You pay tax on it to the British government in the first instance but must also file an Irish tax return including the rental income. You’ll pay Irish tax on it then but you will receive a credit for the UK tax already paid so you will only pay the balance of any tax due to the Irish government.

Thank you for that
