How to update UK driving licence with an Irish passport? Help

So, I need to update my paper UK driving licence to a photo one. The website says Irish passport is acceptable but I think you have to post it and then there is a long message about how they are not responsible if it gets lost.

So, I know the post office offer a service where they do it all (take the photos verify your identity and engage directly with DVLA) for you but it's not clear if it's only for UK passport holders.

And tips or advice very welcome.. I am reluctant to send my passport in the post and wonder if there is another way I can verify my identity. Thanks

Why do you need to change your paper licence to a photo card one? It is valid until it expires unless you want to change details on it e.g. address, name, etc

I did it in the post office. I was baffled by this too but post office did it all for me fine.

With Irish passport obviously

Why do you need to change your paper licence to a photo card one

One reason might be that some car hire organisations insist on a photo licence.

I did it at the post office but not every post office offers the service

Actually I think it was a renewal service I used... don't think it was for upgrading from paper licence. You might have to send your passport to Swansea... www.gov.uk/exchange-paper-driving-licence

Yeah need to change because of address change. Post Office replied to me and said they don't provide a service to update paper to photo but they would if I was simply renewing an old photo one for a new photo one. Apparently I have no choice but to send it all (including my Irish passport) in the post. I am nervous about that.

You can send it in paid for special delivery postage, which is about £6.50 and you can enclose a paid for special delivery return envelope (usually a silver plastic bag/not actually an envelope) to get it returned to you.

Ah thanks @CrushedPistachios . Appreciate it.
