We were supposed to be visiting our family in Dublin for a couple of days in the Christmas hols , I have been holding off booking flights due to the omnicron, would I be bonkers to still book to travel? The uk stats are worrying.
I am haunted by the memory of what happen last Christmas, due you think they will lockdown arrivals again?

I think it far more likely that every one else will not want visitors from the UK

Omicron is here. Closing our borders is too late.

I now realise how lucky I was to get a quick trip in in late October!

Overdon · 13/12/2021 13:35

Well thankfully we did also nip across in October, but DS will be gutted if we miss the winter wonderland lights.

Just place-marking, if anyone heard anything please share. Booked to visit family after Christmas and will go unless more restrictions are implemented.

Our Taoiseach ( Prime Minister) addressed the nation on the 6 pm news.

Pubs and Restaurants have to close at 8pm
As do theatres and cinemas.
Outdoor sporting events limited to 5000
Weddings are max 100
Visitors to Ireland must have antigen tests for 5 days after arrival.

I don't understand - they are saying the Omicron strain has mild symptoms so why the panicking?

SoyMarina · 18/12/2021 09:50

Stay put!
You risk getting stuck over there!
Not worth it for a short trip surely.

LowlyTheWorm · 18/12/2021 21:15

Family over in Ireland. Managed to rearrange flights there pre Xmas- what are the chances of a lockdown and would we be able to leave if that happens? To return to UK?

LadyEloise1 · 19/12/2021 08:29

I'm fearful of a lockdown after Christmas.
The Dutch have gone into a strict lockdown and our Government appears to be keeping an eye on what the Dutch are doing.

Ilikepalindromes · 19/12/2021 09:59

If I were you, I'd be staying where you are.

motheroflions · 19/12/2021 10:11

I am in the exact same position.

I am so stressed out. I am having issues with my passport ( not arrived yet!) My PCR test is on Monday as we fly out Wednesday and i cant register it until i have a passport number. Flights and hotel booked.

Then miraculously if I even manage to get on the bloody plane am now scared to death that we may get stuck out there or have to go in to quarantine.

I have just had a little cry. I was flying out to see my dd who lives there. The whole trip has cost about £9000

motheroflions · 19/12/2021 10:12

Oh sorry, i thought you said Dubai!

RuggerHug · 19/12/2021 10:22

Family we have in London were due to arrive Weds, not coming now. Not worth the risk.

Overdon · 19/12/2021 12:38

Yes it is far too risky I’m not travelling now. Unfortunately my relations in Dublin think I am being over cautious and it hasn’t gone down well!
However with Germany now placing restrictions on UK arrivals it seems like only a matter of time before it happens in ROI.

Oh the ones they were due to stay with think it's ridiculous and they won't "bring anything" but at least it hasn't become a row(yet)

SoyMarina · 19/12/2021 19:42

Stay put!
