I was going to use Hertz but not sure now as there website says both parts required!
Travelling tomorrow.
Has anyone hired from Hertz recently and only had the plastic card driving licence?
Any other companies I can use?
TIA

I'd be buggered because they don't issue paper licences anymore.

dementedpixie · 16/10/2021 17:53

I didn't think paper counterparts to the driving licence were valid/required any more. They certainly aren't in Scotland/England

dementedpixie · 16/10/2021 17:59

Where was your licence issued?
GB ones don't have a paper counterpart
Googling suggests NI driving licences still have the photocard plus paper counterpart. If its not a NI licence you have then you dont need both parts

I recently hired a car through Europcar at Knock, and I only needed the card part of my driving licence. When I’ve hired at Belfast before (not with europcar) I had to basically sell my soul with the most obscene amount of identity! Hope you get it sorted!

I think I might have come across an out of date hertz page cos' I can't find it any longer.
I think the card part is sufficient ... especially as I'm in England where the paper part doesn't seem to exist any longer.
Thanks

If you have a GB licence the the paper counterpart to the photocard was made obsolete in about 2015. If it was a NI licence then you still need both parts

Carriemac · 18/10/2021 20:51

You don't need it . I rent form hertz a lot in Dublin with my Uk liscense

shrugshrug · 19/10/2021 08:40

I'm in Ireland and only have a credit card type license.

LIZS · 19/10/2021 08:44

Have you ordered the paperwork/code from dvla as that confirms your driving history previously shown on the paper part.

Carriemac · 19/10/2021 09:03

They never ask for that anymore

We had to do this recently when hiring a car in Scotland.

This is what you need instead. You need to get it online.
saleorbouy · 02/12/2021 20:15

Paper part no longer required just access your driving history, see the DVLA link it's about 1/2 way down.

Why are people giving info from UK driving rules?!

Dublin is the Republic of Ireland. Different country. Different rules.
May be similar but best to check.

OP, can't you google it? Or a phone call to Hertz in Dublin. You'll have the answer within 5 minutes.

Carriemac · 03/12/2021 15:59

It was a requirement for people driving in Ireland with a Uk license . Something to do
With when the UK got rid of The paper part of the license . I'm aware of where Dublin is geographically and politically thanks .
