I'm cooped up in a tiny terraced shabby house 880sq foot but I need to be near my dc2's school and from October, I hope, we need to be a bus away from either UCD or TCD (we are). Not sure DC2 is headed for uni though, so perhaps perhaps I could have some options to move in 4-6 years.

I need space, to do yoga, have a big table for clay, dressmaking as well as a kitchen table! Also, just a bit of luxury. So a new duplex would be lovely. Not in to gardening.

So, can anybody suggest a place that is as nice as Skerries or Dalkey or Greystones but further away from Dublin and so cheaper.

Has to be less than 300k because I'd like a bit left over if I sold this house so that I could come back to Dublin if for infrequent reunions and meetups. Realistically that might mean staying in a hotel in Dublin four nights a year. I like the sound of that.
Extra challenge, I don't want to drive, so I like the idea of being near a station as well. I'd like to be able to be back in Heuston or Connolly Station in max two hours if needed.
I'm probably dreaming believing that either of my kids will ever be able to move out! But........ moving a bit further out of Dublin might motivate them to try.

What locations spring to mind!?

Direct train line to Heuston.
Motorway- approx 1.5 hours to central Dublin on a Saturday morning.

Wow, waterford seems like a good location

I have often said to DH that I would like to move to Killarney. The town has a lovely vibe, great facilities, a fabulous National Park. It has a train station, it is near Kerry and Cork airports. In non covid times there is always something going on. Also the INEC usually has great acts on.

Maybe i just need a million euro and a holiday and a car and throw in a bit of botox and a leather jacket.
😭

Rathdrum in the Wicklow Mountains is nice. How's this one - about 5 km from Rathdrum Station?

Or this one in the town about 10 mins walk from the station - which is 1 hour 20 mins from Connolly Sta:
