Dh is wrongly calling it a hurl. I correctly call it a hurley. For context, I have munster heritage, he's from just outside the pale. It's come to a head as ds has just started at the local gaa academy and dh is just trying to piss me off Hmm

Hurley.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/09/2018 19:28

Well those uppity feckers from kilkenny with their plethora of titles are as entitled to be wrong in their language as they are right in their game play.

Ahem, Kilkenny person here and yes it's a hurl, which autocorrect wants to change to girl 😂

dinosaurkisses · 08/09/2018 19:30

I’d say hurl but that’s because of Dub DH.

He also says press instead of wardrobe, so I should have known better than to listen to him anyway.

StripySocksAndDocs · 08/09/2018 19:30

Pfft, what do Kilkenny folk know about hurling?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/09/2018 19:31

Like I said, uppity Hmm

From Munster so therefore it’s a Hurley living in Gakway and they all (wrongly) call it a hurl (sadly including the dc)

forumuser · 08/09/2018 19:33

Definitely hurley and I'm pretending I didn't see the hurling stick responses, tut tut.

forumuser · 08/09/2018 19:34

Tut tut to me for writing hurling stick instead of hurley stick!

babybluegirl · 08/09/2018 19:34

Oh and from the current winning county so I know I’m right

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2018 19:38

Well baby if you call their county Gakway you can't complain...

babybluegirl · 08/09/2018 19:40

I couldn’t fix it!! I did try!!

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2018 19:40

A hurl - in Galway

babybluegirl · 08/09/2018 19:42

Also not really allowed fly my limerick flag here - dc cane off pitch before all Ireland like a bull - didn’t know what was wrong with her - forgot I had one flag from each county up - apparently that was not on - nor was mentioning she was born in limerick! I say Hurley to annoy her - they also say sliotar here in a weird way

ElspethFlashman · 08/09/2018 19:46

A hurl - in the Wesht.

But then I'm a total bogger.

Apparently there's great money to be made at the Ploughing if you've made County and you're there to sign hurls.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/09/2018 20:10

Looks like a midlands/West vs rest of the country split. We can take 'em.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 08/09/2018 20:11

Nah I'm from the west and we say hurley round here.

OkPedro · 08/09/2018 20:18

Do you mean your dh calls a cupboard a press? I've never heard of a wardrobe being referred to as a press!

I'm in Dublin and I'd call it a hurl Blush
Although I've no interest in gaa so what would I know Grin

dinosaurkisses · 08/09/2018 20:22

OkPedro He basically calls anything with a door a press. Kitchen cupboard. Wardrobe. Built in cupboard. Hot press.

Typical conversation would be

“DH where is the X?”
“In the press.”
“BE MORE SPECIFIC FFS!”

jaimebravo · 08/09/2018 20:23

I am from Clare, we call it a hurley. I live in Galway, they call it a hurlHmm

DramaAlpaca · 08/09/2018 20:27

Fly your Limerick flag high & proud babybluegirl Smile

Hurley. Obvs

LTB

SallyGardens · 08/09/2018 20:37

It's a hurl or a camán. Disclaimer - I'm from a non-GAA family in a county that's best known for not being very good at GAA sports.
