Capital gains tax on family homes

Apparently the government are considering a capital gains tax on family homes.
The family homes that most of the hard pressed middle income earners ( so beloved of Leo Varadkar or so he says) who have worked hard to pay the loan and interest off on the house they bought, and already pay a property tax on, despite they still not actually owning it til the loan ( mortgage) is paid off.
Well, the government can, in the famous Mumsnet phrase, fottfsoftfosm with that idea.

And they thought the water charge protests were bad......
A riled house 'owning' class including pensioners. Is that what the government want ?

We bought and sold a house a few years ago. And we bought our home last year. We've paid a stupid amount of stamp duty, property tax, Vat on all the professional fees such as Solicitors and Engineers, etc.

We'll pay a massive amount of interest on our mortgage. And the government are considering taking another chunk off us?!

Surely people just won't sell??! It would contribute to the supply shortage in Ireland. Instead of downsizing people may stay put in their family sized houses.

We paid 9% stamp duty, property tax, all the VAT payable and we have a mortgage we'll be paying forever. We are probably still in negative equity.
Only last week I watched Leo Varadker being grilled by Vincent Brown and he said he was on the side of the squeezed middle.
Yea Right!!!
Not with this proposed tax you're not.
