'Letter of freedom' for christening

Anyone else come across this??

We had DD1 christened in the church next door but we are having DD2 christened in my husbands home parish. The main reason is his church has internet so BIL can watch the ceremony from New York (he's godfather). MIL was organising it and she called me today to tell me I needed to get a letter from my parish priest saying DD2 could be christened in the other parish.

Has anyone come across this before?

Yes, we had DS baptised in my MIL's parish and our (English) Parish priest wrote a letter 'recommending' DS as a candidate for baptism which sounds similar?

Yes, I had dd3 christened in a different parish to the one we live in. We go to Mass, older kids go to school in the parish we wanted her to be christened in. As I remember we rang the office of our actual parish they filled in a form, we picked it up and left it in with the office at the parish we wanted the christening to take place in. The only slight hiccup was with the parish office we wanted dd3 christened in. On initial enquiry the secretary made a big oooh don't know if we can do that, Fr xxxxxxx doesn't usually do that. I just asked to speak directly to the parish priest & I got a call back an hour later telling me there was no problem. But getting the letter from the parish was no bother at all, all sorted out very quickly.

When you get married in a Catholic Church that isn't your local parish one (where you were baptised yourself) you have to get a Letter of Freedom from parish church for the priest to be able to marry you in new church. It cost me €5. But a friend was charged €50 for one!! (Different part of country).
I don't remember getting any letter for the christenings though? I expect it depends on the priest.

We had no experience with the wedding as we got married in New York. Just hadn't heard about this before.

Our local parish priest is reportedly quite awkward about things like this - I know of 3 people who had issues (major delays and interrogations) getting letters of freedom.
