Story in Irish media about the disappearing wife from the luxury cruise

Did anyone see that story in the news yesterday?
Couple from Dublin on a Mediterranean cruise with their 2 young children... husband (who is German) was arrested at the airport when the crew realised his (Chinese) wife had not disembarked..

It all sounds unbelievable... and there has been no follow up today or new information. What happened the poor children when the dad was arrested yesterday ? They are only 6 and 4... Apparently the husband was "eager" to get in front of a judge to explain his wife's disappearance... Why didn't he explain to the crew or when he was arrested?

I am so intrigued and there is no new information!

Has anyone else seen more on this?

Version from The Telegraph:

and it seems that the man is likely to be charged with murder imminently (might not be the right term, as it's all happening in Rome and the systems might be different there). The DC are under the care of Italian SS.

oh thanks DirtyBlonde
All very strange. I wonder what has happened.
Those poor kids - whatever has happened this must be so traumatising for them.

The DC are 6 and 10 according to new media reports.

I read a report today where he's claimed that they have gone on holiday before and had a row and she left him on holiday and went to China for 6 months and back to Dublin another time. MSC are very thorough at checking your swipe card and info every time you embark and disembark their ships. Your swipe card has all your info on it including a photo of you, you use it to open your cabin door, every time you get a drink, buy something in the shops etc. and also everytime they do an evacuation drill.

Whatever the story, those children must be traumatised.
In a strange country, a different language, both parents gone.
I presume the Irish embassy is involved.
I think the husband is German, the wife Chinese but they live in Dublin.

TisMeTheLadFromTheBar · 09/03/2017 01:52

It said in the paper that she never left the ship (her exit card wasn't used) and the Man and children dined at the same table every night without her, after the first night. He either hid her on the ship or threw her overboard. Witnesses saw/heard them arguing apparently. There is no news since about her, and he is under arrest in Rome Sad

I think about those poor children.

Looks like her body has been found

His solicitor says it is not her.
Though how he knows, I don't understand.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 26/03/2017 21:10

Gosh. What a strange story.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 26/03/2017 22:18

How sad
I actually hope that it wasn't him - although I can't see any other feasible explanation - because the idea of the father murdering the mother then carrying on with the family holiday is just too awful to contemplate. Poor children

Jaysis · 04/04/2017 12:53

Honey, the post mortem has confirmed that the body found in the suitcase in Rimini is not the woman.

The Irish based woman is still missing, as is a large suitcase.

hollyisalovelyname · 13/04/2017 09:30

Any update?

Donthate · 13/04/2017 09:39

I can't believe I haven't heard about this. Poor kids and wife.

0nline · 13/04/2017 09:44

Any update?

Nothing more recent that I can see in the Italian press. Processes do tend tend to go quite slowly here though, so that isn't particularly unusual.

Any more news on this lady?
