I can't, as always stay with family. Mum of favourite student of mine is visiting Dublin in May. Am in Forrin (Germany), he's doing a work placement thingy (it's all a bit different here) at my school and asked for tips/hotels/what to see.

For his mum & friends - 50 plus, mix of culture & getting pissed Wink

Is Maryz still here? Miss her.

Have had so many great tips & so much good advice. Shall print off the thread & annotate it so they get the names & places & add a brief translation in German for them.

Any tips re decent but not eye-wateringly expensive hotels? My parents used to stay at the Shelbourne in Dublin & Ashford Castle in Mayo when we couldn't stay with family. I couldn't stretch to a cup of tea at either.

Take a look at Airbnb if your visitors would be up for staying in an apartment instead of a traditional hotel. There are lots in central Dublin that (imo) are much better value than hotels. Check the reviews but any place with Superhost status will be nicer than most hotels.

Thanks, Mar Didn't know about the Superhost status.

Am getting more envious of their trip the more I read. My 2 younger children will be finishing the equivalent of whatever the Leaving cert is now called & the one at 16 in 2 years so am hoping we can have a trip home of our own. Lots of lovely aunts to visit Wink

Including the one my mum was visiting when an old friend & neighbour called round & talk as ever turned to how well the 'children' were doing. When she got home my mum asked me on the phone if I'd ever heard of Louis Walsh.

Posted too soon.

Because she only remembered him as a young boy who'd trail around them after school & she had no idea what he was now doing. "Done well for himself" though.

Was it Maryz who said Craicnet might be tricky because we'd all know each other to some degree?

Fiderer perhaps that's why Maryz has disappeared.😥

Don't think so holly - she'd mentioned it a few times over the years in jest & still kept posting. Haven't seen her for ages on any threads.

Hope she's OK.
