Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

I’ve co-slept with my daughter who is now 15 months up until now, and tonight I’m going to tackle the cot! (I was really unwell after her birth, co-slept to be able to get to sleep myself, and waited far too long to try and settle her into the cot) !

There is a double bed in her room that I’ll sleep in during the transition. I have also installed a white noise and shhh sound machine, a night light, and I’m wondering if there is anything else I could do to make the transition as easy as possible? She does nap in a cot at nursery without any problems at all.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated… I know I have left it very late so please be gentle with me :-)

Is it not worth just skipping the cot and having a floor bed that you share with her initially, then gradually reduce the time you share, e.g. push back the time you share with her every few nights? Typically an easier transition from full cosleeping. I'd say getting her to spend the whole night in the cot straight away is unrealistic, especially if she can see you sleeping in the room. It's not late, I don't know why you think that, in most of the world parents cosleep for years! We went to a floor bed at 12 months, it has really helped.
